It is a cold brittle Sunday here in Aotearoa-NZ...
Lots going on in my life.
John was more CA, or NA, than anything else. The miracle- of what became Miracles in Progress happened under a bridge in Dallas.
John told me about this- when I met him and spent time with him a few years back.
John had dreams and ambitions. One time he had shared the stage with Bob E.- who was a pivotal ground-breaking speaker- known to many
on the recovery scene.
John helped run recovery accomodation in his home town.
I just would have loved to have heard him speak at one of his home town 12 Step meetings.
We have people like home in my own home town.
He was a cowboy and a biker... and the song below appeared in his introduction to these MIP groups.
He dropped one- but there is CODA, ACA, AA, NA and Alanon.
Only two of our groups really function as a group, really.
And we have a devoted member here running our combined Steps and Traditions group! ...
One time he pinned something up on the Alanon group that was a shocker.
I could almost see Betty scurrying around getting him to take it down.
I met Betty too- on a trip to the USA- and attended her meeting in a darkened Veterans Hospital in Lower Manhattan.
We had coffee and milo afterwards. She was a splendid hostess- gracious and warm.
She had been a worker in the former World Trade Centre. If anyone has heard her story- around that workplace,
it would bring tears to their eyes. It bought a lot of things right home for me.
Not an unlikely duo- John and Betty. We see people like this all the time at our assemblies.
Strugglers from Struggle Street, we call 'em in NZ.
And I am so proud to be one of them, and truly grateful.

Please note that Betty did not start this group
Betty come into this board just the same way everyone else does
This Bosrd had been working for a very long time
As a Board that had meetings several times per day there were numerous service positions
Those service positions were held by numerous persons
Most certainly it was extremely generous of John to create this Board. However he ran this board with the service of numerous persons for years
Moreover he also ran his #houses# that took alcoholics in transition with the assistance of many many persons
Therefore this Board would most certainly would not be in existence without a collective effort
I am certain that people in the North Carolina area who mourned John when he died had a very colorful memorial for him. After all he was extremely active in that community
Personally I am extremely grateful for those who have carried the message through this group. That is all the persons who have contributed to this group for decades
I am very much aware that everyone needs thanks for their collective effort
On July 4th when traditionally there are alcathons all over the world it is particularly pertinent to thank all those people who made this Board a reference point.
July 4th is not an easy reference for any alcoholic. Those of us who had the opportunity to live around them were often presented with many conflicts
Thereafter we often felt a sense of acute loss over every holiday
Therefore for persons like myself presented with those dilemma's having a message board to go to in order to sort ki out those emotions has been illuminating
Thank you to everyone who made this board possible for so many decades ..
Thank you for showing up. Thank you for keeping the lights on. Most of all thank you so much for carrying the message. That being life in life's terms rather than exclusively the terms I believe I #should# get

Please stop openly gossiping on this board about other Alanon members with your perceptions as to who you believe they were. Gossip is an obstacle to progress in Alanon groups. It causes both new and seasoned members of Alanon to feel unsafe. Additionally, it's a breach of anonymity to share where other Alanon members attend/attended meetings, work/worked. These boundaries of confidentiality continue even after a person has died and are even more important after death as they can no longer speak personally to who they are.

Thank you TT. I agree 100%. The slogan keep the focus on me exists for a very good reason.

In response:- we have talked here about the founders- Lois and Bill W. any number of times.
And also about Betty and John, from time to time.
So, has something changed?
