In today's reading from C2C, the author reflects on Al-Anon and crisis. For many of us, Al-Anon helped us manage with crises that we could not have managed on our own. We learn to rely on a higher power and to see the support around us. We learn that we can live and grow through difficult times. For most of us, the situation improves or we find peace with it.
The author then turns attention to those of us who, despite progress, continue to worry. What if the crisis returns? Will Al-Anon work again? While we cannot know what the future will bring, the author reminds us that our best hope is every bit as likely to occur as our worst fears, so we have no more reason to worry about the negative than hope about the positive. All we can do is make the most of this day. Today, we can chose to trust our recovery, use the tools of the program, and rely on our higher power.
Today's Reminder: Today I will take a few minutes to acknowledge my growth. I am not perfect, but I certainly have made progress.

I have been known to worry. My current worry is whether my AW's health issues will worsen and become debilitating, whether she will give up and stop trying to get better (like her aunt did). But, my worries aren't reality. They aren't happening today, right now, so wasting my day with those worries will just take away my today. I try to not dwell on these worries. My current worries can seem really real, they are certainly based in reality, but they are about the future. I'm glad I have the tools of the program and program friends to help remind myself about the beauty and preciousness of today.
My beautiful vegetable garden is missing some key plants - peppers, broccoli, cauliflower... It seems that I've used the rabbit fencing to fence IN a couple of adolescent bunnies. But they are cute, and safe from predators in the garden, so there's the positive side of it!

Something about me that I learned with my 4 Step: I tend to think of worst-case scenarios, so that I will not be taken by surprise and can be prepared. That learned behavior kept me in a negative, worrying state-of-being. I had to learn (and continue to practice) how to look at these things with the knowledge that any number of scenarios could be possible!! It will not always be the negative one!

And thank you for using "the author." When I am rocking along, reading about a person and suddenly bump up against a "they," my head snaps around so fast my brain bumps up against the bony protuberances at the front and that is not fun. Grins. Now I can read your whole post.

Thank you Skorpi for your service and the daily. Thanks to all for your ESH and shares. I am a known worrier. I came from a serial worrier. She did too! What's been fascinating about life, aging, recovery, etc. is that it is just a pointless activity! Both my grandma (passed on now) and my mother had/have dementia. Guess what? The first thing that goes is worry..so it seems.
I do worry way less than before and I am truly grateful. My sponsor impressed upon me countless times that what I was concerned with, as mentioned above, is not happening now. What is so frustrating to me is when I project, it's always negative, bad, etc. I am hoping for a day where that changes, and I project positive, blessed, wonderful, lovely outcomes!
I do know that the most important thing I can do for me each day is commit to some recovery 'effort'. It can be reading, it can be sharing, a phone call, a meeting, etc. Any effort, big or small, daily just helps keep me centered. When I stray, and make anything else more important than my recovery, I can easily loose my peace, which starts a side journey that's just not always as healthy. I do believe it is important each day for me to realize I will never be perfect, I will always keep progressing and that's good enough for me.
Bunnies, squirrels and robins have completely taken over our garden/yard. Our cherry tree that produced probably 50+ pounds of cherries last year has been completely emptied by the robins. I did get out one day and pick enough to make a cherry cake but they are gone...we are realizing that Layla, even in her senior age/state, did a good job of scaring off the bunnies and squirrels. We too are watching a variety of veggies and flowers disappear each day.
I started my day golfing and got busy after. I hope everyone had a lovely day! (((Hugs)))
