Amazing how people who struggle to get to face to face meetings now have the ability to attend meetings as alanon is "making house calls" so to speak! LOL.
I've been receiving notices nationwide about meetings that are now meeting via zoom! From NY to CA, there are meetings multiple times a day, 7 days a week! Too bad more people can't take advantage of this!

They had at least 1000 people "attend" the meeting!!! I know many people who showed up late, tried to jump on at various points, etc. -- and they already had 1000 people in attendance!!!
A lot of great sharing, great insight, great perspective!!!

It was announced at my local meeting that this event is happening again next weekend, April 4-5, with new speakers, on the same Zoom link.
I heard from people that attended that they could not login at first because the 1000-person participation limit was full, but if they kept trying, they would be able to get in as people drop in and out of the meeting.
That is correct Freetime...next weekend as well...the flyer was posted here by someone else, but I wouldn't dare do that! LOL.
I know some of the people who spoke, and will be speaking this coming weekend...it's going to be a great event!!!

Rose, I just know that Part II was planned for this coming weekend. I don't know anything about beyond that. If it goes beyond, I am sure it will be announced by and throughout the major sources.

BTW, the plan was that a couple of the speakers for this coming weekend were a few well-known alanon CA people -- one from LA and one from Orange County.

FYI all - there are security concerns with the Zoom app. For those of you concerned about your computer/phone security, I encourage you to seek solutions to ensure you have not bee 'affected'. There are also reports that trolls are joining recovery meetings, and being extremely disruptive. If this interim solution is working for you, don't give up hope! The app. is working to stop both concerns.
I 'grew up' in technology, so am hyper-vigilant about my security - computer, phone, etc. I also am one who avoids new applications until the bugs/defects are worked out. I am not affected directly by any of this, so can't be of much help. Be wise what system you access any app. on/from, especially social media apps and the like! Most are continuously collecting a variety of data that you may/may not want 'out there'.

I attempted to connect several times this weekend myself and kept hitting that 1000 person limit. Oh, well! But that was just wonderful to know thousands of people were attending.
As IAH stated, practice personal safety measures if you feel concerned about connecting through the internet or phone meetings.
For right now, however, this is sort of the new normal for recovery groups to get together. And while perhaps it felt scary and dangerous to attend face-to-face meetings in the past, members took what necessary precautions were needed to ensure their personal safety, and it should be just so for electronic meetings now.
Google "zoom security risks" (or under any other platform your groups may be using) to educate yourselves on the proper precautions to take.
