Good morning MIP. Need to vent for a moment. Im away on my usual after XMas getaway which Ive done for the last 20 or so years. I suffer with a horrible back and its being HORRIBLE! Also, my A seems to be stuck in misery mode, as she cannot tolerate my living apart from her half the week, which I started about two years. These conditions in the past would have brought out a major depression in myself. I would be having a pity party and been mad at the world.
With practice of good program tools daily, reliance on HP big time, and having access to a body of people who understand and support me, I am good. Today is the last day of our trip. I have a fantastic chiropractor and a massage therapist with special training back home, today I will wear a back support for much of the day, and this is all due to my new attitude and faith given to me from alanon. THANK YOU. Not so broken anymore. Lyne

Awesome share Lyne and so, so sorry for the back issues! My dad and 2 of my brothers have chronic back issues and I can see the pain/discomfort when they are very bothered. Sending you prayers for comfort and good on you for willingness to embrace what is, use tools and continue with recovery in spite of what is happening to you and around you!

May I politely say that your posts of late have really inspired me b/c of your obvious growth?
I love that you look at yourself like this: "...this is all due to my new attitude and faith given to me from alanon. THANK YOU. Not so broken anymore. " You have reached the point of enlightenment that you Accept that the "pity-party" does nothing but bring YOU misery! CONGRATULATIONS!
I think it took me longer than usual to see this in me as well. But I am happier today b/c when this type of "Blues" hit me, I can use my Al-Anon tools to help me re-see the blessings I do have!! So important!
Wishing you comfort today - I understand and deal with back pain (due to injury)... so I know first-hand how emotionally debilitating the pain can be! When I have a flare-up, it can be VERY hard to stay in the positive... It clouds everything you do! You are taking the right corrective steps for you, and you know with certainty that it won't last b/c you have medical people at home who can help.
Keep up the TLC & I hope you enjoy the last day of your trip!!!

I absolutely, positively, incredibly LOVE how someone else being stuck (especially in misery mode) does NOT impact you. It does NOT change you. It does NOT consume you. I love it!!!
This is what recovery -- what alanon -- is about!!! Most people don't get it. YOU DO!!! And thank you for showing us!!!

I've got chronic back problems, too - and it actually got better when I started working with a physical therapist who was able to diagnose where the problem was coming from and then prescribe exercises and stretches. When I do the work, the pain stays away. When I slack off, it comes back.
Kind of reminds me of my program work, too. Life stays a bit easier when I'm working my program and gets pretty painful when I start slacking off!

A friend of mine called me this morning and is struggling with the same thing. His sponsor asked him...where's your focus, who are you focusing on, who are you paying attention to?
Someone else is miserable. We don't ignore it in a uncompassionate. We don't have vindictiveness in our hearts, minds, and souls. We aren't mean.
We just don't let it consume us. We don't let it ruin our day. We have compassion. We detach. And so on and so on.
We do the work!!! We work our program. Our recovery.

I use to suffer that pain myself after two auto accidents including many medical treatments. Years later a fellow on my NASA crew brought me in a book titled Psyco-cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz which for me was really a study of Mind over Matter physiology techniques. The book and the subject was awesome and I no longer need the hospitals, spinals, doctors, etc as I can practice the technique at home on my own. As my back straightens out you can hear the noises as the bones, muscles and ligaments come back into place and the pain disappears.
It is an awesome practice where I get to conduct the healing. It also works in many areas of self healing. (((hugs))) Including Al-Anon.

Thanks to all for great shares and support. I can usually handle my back issues but my summer trip and this small one seem to trigger a severe reaction. I do stretch, exercise, see chirop and massage person, have positive imagery, etc. Jerry, made note of your book. All suggestions welcome! Lyne

(((Lyne))) - one of my gal pals swears by Cryotherapy. So much so that she's joined one of our centers, and goes almost every morning. Love the willingness to try new suggestions to do your self-care and healing. (((Hugs)))

Even some doctors including an anesthesiologist I sponsored in the program were very surprised with how it worked and what it did. For me I get to practice gratitude with my Higher Power often.
