Hi MIP family-Lately I am doing well, happy, coping well, and of course there are ups and downs. Today I have learned that a former colleague and friend is in the hospital. He has pancreatic cancer and was doing well until a tick bite came along. His prognosis is quite guarded. And my 14 year old doggie with heart issues had a very rough night. I have asked HP to take her if it is time, instead of letting her suffer. So I have a heavy heart yet I still feel like I can be a happy person, but allowing myself to be sad about these issues. Its not like in the past where a dark cloud envelops me and I cant be anything but overwhelmed with depression. This is rather a different and unique experience. I think its due to my changes from alanon. Does anyone relate to this? Lyne

Lyne - so very sorry to hear about your friend and your aging dog! I can relate - I would allow real fearful life events to control my days, my emotions and my outlook before recovery. Today, I too have come to just try to be me. If I am sad, that's OK - I can feel that feeling yet don't have to let it control me and control my day. My friend with cancer has had a couple of really bad weeks and just had to have a bag put in. She's terminal and it's just a matter of when. Yet, we all try to be the light in her day, support her choices and decisions and live just one day at a time.
Recovery has helped me greatly deal with life on life's terms. I can be sad yet still be of service, healthy in choices, etc. - newer behavior for me than before! (((Hugs))) to you and yours - thoughts and prayers also headed your way!

Lyne,
So sorry to hear about your friend and your pet. You're doing a good job putting the Serenity Prayer into action. I want to suggest or remind you of Alanon's Opening Our Hearts Transforming our Losses book. It may offer additional comfort. Prayers for you and them during this difficult time. Imho, you're exhibiting courage, maturity and compassion concerning your beloved dog. ((hugs)) TT

Yes, the last month I have experienced very similar circumstances. I could've been overcome with Fear and devastated by sadness, but my program helped me through. Like TT said, you are moving through this season of your life with courage, maturity and compassion.
