My partner and I would like to go to couple counselling in Toronto but we would like to go to someone who has experience with families whose members were alcoholics (my mother). I don't have any addictions, and only drink on rare occasions, but I do know I am inclu the mental damage has been impacted by growing up with an alcoholic parent. And some of those issues are impacting my personal relationship. Does anyone know a good therapist in Toronto that could help?? Thank you

I think you'll find that the therapist will also recommend you go to private counseling, as well. I highly recommend getting to some face-to-face Al-anon meetings and seeing if you feel they fit. You certainly sound like you've been affected by the disease of alcoholism given your upbringing.
In the meantime, when selecting a counselor, I really recommend you find someone with experience in dealing with addiction.
I hope someone here can provide a good reference in the meantime, and I hope you give Al-anon a try.

Toronto1 - welcome to MIP - glad you found us and glad that you posted. I have no insight into Canada and counseling that may exist there, but did want to welcome you here! I agree with Aloha on the suggestion of stopping by and attending some Al-Anon meetings - it's for friends and family who have been affected by the drinking of another. There's no requirement beyond that and I do believe you will find others who understand and can support you!
Keep coming back here too - there is always hope and help in recovery/life.
