I visited this site several years ago, due to having a difficult time with my ABF and looking for some much needed ESH. I ended up leaving the relationship, because it was apparent that he was not ready to stop drinking and his addiction and related behaviors were bringing me down with him. I was an emotional mess due to watching what he was doing to himself and also the constant verbal abuse towards me. His drinking continued and, ultimately, took a very serious toll on his health, which lead to him almost dying and having some permanent health issues. He then chose to get sober and seemed to be very serious about his sobriety.
We reconnected 2 1/2 years ago, shortly after he became sober, and started spending time together as friends, and then decided to give it another go with our relationship. It was absolutely wonderful and I have to say that it was so great to have the sober man of my dreams back in my life. We were both enjoying such a healthy and happy relationship. Well, as you may have suspected as you are reading this, he has recently relapsed, actually more than once, and this last one is the one that has led me back to this group for some ESH. I always knew that there was the possibility that this could happen, due to the nature of this cunning disease but, nonetheless, I am left so saddened and scratching my head. Visiting this forum helped me before, even though I would read much more than I would post, and I am looking forward to my return.

Welcome back I love your log on name nd do try to live by those principles each day. Alanon is a recovery program for family members and those in a reltaionship with an alcoholic . The tools offered are tried and true so please search out a face to face meeting, pick up some literature and keep coming back-- You are not alone and there is hope

I also really like your username LLL and also welcome you back. I believe you're in the right place - a safe place to share and not be given advice or any judgement. I know that relapses are very frightening, yet I know now because of Al-Anon that I am as powerless over a relapse as I am over another's recovery. I do encourage you to seek out some local meetings - I found it very helpful to align with others that had similar experiences.

Welcome LLL-Yes it is not surprising to read of relapse. Most of us on the forum know it too well. Its great that you have returned to MIP for support and understanding. But please remember that along with MIP, which helps me immensely, F2F meetings and getting a sponsor are amazing for help with recovery. I try and use as many options available that I can fit in my schedule. Help is available! Lyne
