Still with me Argggggh! soooo glad the program is also. My hearing aids crapped out totally and I am living now as if my head is wrapped with a pillow and a tinnitus snake. My audiologist is a gift fro my Higher Power. Her name is Mary which could mean she is really a saint. We did the long test again and I am glad I was born and raised in our disease and also for the 40 years of recovery I have and a wife who is also in recovery. Arggggh!! I don't get the aids back for a month and then with no guarantees.
The testing was done with a large amount of hope. My wife and I read literature before the testing started and the page I read from "Discovering Choices" was very very similar to what we were going to go thru written by an Al-Anon man dealing with a medical issue, pre-appointment and with his wife. I could have written it and we sat in the parking lot nodding over what we were reading as we were going thru it.
I have got to kick up on my program because this is real-time practice now and for the next month. I will pray gratitude for my spouse and keep asking my HP to tell me what to do while we wait. I have another set of aids...they don't work yet best of all I have MIP aids which does. I will sit and listen with my eyes and that way I can hear you all clearly.

(((Jerry))) - I am so, so sorry for this! I am blessed to still have most of my hearing so truly can't imagine....I love how you find what you are grateful for - that is certainly a step in the serenity direction. I am grateful to live in an area with many meeting options, but I am very partial to MIP as it's open/available/here 24 x 7 x 365. I'll send some positive MoJo, prayers and thoughts your way!! You can and will get through this! I have faith brother!!

I had hearing problems after my hospitalization and it drove me nuts. I still feel as if all sensory input goes around the barn before it registers, but I don't have to turn the volume up to Stun level.
My husband's grandfather and father were stone deaf at the end, and I suggested to him maybe 20 years ago that we learn ASL just in case. I thought it would be more like fun if we did it when he was just beginning to show some loss than after it was all gone. That was met with the same amount of warmth and enthusiasm as any other suggestion I have ever made, of course.
Can you read lips? I never could, but some people are just naturally good at it. I think I learned not to look at faces--there might be disapproval lurking there. Hubs, who is pretty much pre-verbal, it seems sometimes, surprises me when he mentions observations he's made about other people--just because he really looks at them--especially their faces. I've missed a lot. I also realize I am usually too busy talking to take in much information. I can't even drive and talk. Well I can, but keeping the car off the sidewalk gets tricky. I wouldn't dream of trying to talk on a cell phone and drive. I'm so previous century--a real monotasker.
But enough about me. You think?
I hope you get a lot of physical hugs, because you can always hear a hug. And I hope you get to spend a lot of time with your flowers.
"They" say that deafness is more isolating than blindness. I hope you can work around it. And prayers that it will be all better in a month.

Yes I read lips and body language especially not only what is said but how. I gonna wish I can have that kind of listener for me starting right away. I like listening in meetings and to my sponsors. Things get done that way.

((((Jerry)))) Sending you hugs across the Pacific! My mom is now both deaf (w/o aids) and legally blind. She had lost her hearing long before the problems with her eyes. She handled the deaf thing pretty well (probably b/c she has the aids), but losing her sight was the "kicker" for her - so I can understand your frustration with your situation. But, you are wise... and you know your HP has "got you."
MY first thought upon reading your post was, "oh dear, I am so bummed for Jerry!" My second thought was, "At least he can see and type, so he can still share his wisdom here on MIP!" And even though you cannot hear the sweet sounds of birdsong currently, you can take in all the beauty of the flowers with your eyes.
Just looking at your problem from another angle!
I am hoping you don't have to wait so long to get the replacement aids!

Glad you're taking care of yourself Jerry!
I see a lot of great strength in your share. It shows how much recovery you have in your life. How many of us used to put off doing necessary things for our health because we were just too preoccupied with what others were doing around us, or just didn't know how to honor our physical health.
I know HP will give you the right help you need at the right time!

Hmmm.... so with the attitude of "when life gives you lemons, we make lemonade"..... perhaps this is a blessing in disguise.... you won't have to (nor be able to) hear the nonsense that can infuriate all of us from time to time :)

My concerns of course diminished after reading your responses exactly as they did when I first found the program...I'm grateful and hopeful and as I listen I can see my HP nod and hear HP's chuckle. Feeling loved is a treasure.
I am being reminded of a powerful direction I was give by my VA alcoholism counselor years ago which I had never heard in my face to face meetings and sponsor feedback. I will start using it now, "giving mercy" is what I was told and taught.
It has a different angle to it than just giving acceptance. Yeah giving mercy is a big part of my amends making today.
Gonna go practice. Mahalo and love my family. (((((MIP)))))

Dear Jerry. I am so sorry that this has happened to you and I am praying that the testing brings new hearing aids where you can hear again. We folks who were lucky not to have that need to get on our knees and say thank you higher power that I have my site and my ears and all five of my senses. Youre so positive and you put out such positive energy I know this will work out good for you in the end, but the waiting is a pain in the neck
Sending you prayers and also prayers to your HP to give you back your precious ability to hear. I just wanted to weigh in and tell you that I am thinking about you and sending you positive vibrations
