Hello.I thought I would take the leap and hop in to introduce myself.
I am currently surrounded by alcoholics and addicts. It seems nearly everyone in my life is one or the other.I feel I am drowning and I don't know how to save myself.
I have been daydreaming about running away from all of them and never looking back.I could never do that, they are my loved ones.So instead I have decided to try to help myself by being here.

Welcome, SunnyFrogs! I am sorry for what brought you here but glad you joined in. I too understand the desire to run away from it all, and the feeling of drowning. There is hope. I found it helpful to get into face-to-face Al-Anon meetings, this forum, a therapist, reading, and being open.
Deciding to help yourself is the greatest place to start! I hope you find something helpful here.
Read, post, jump right in. This is a great community with many wise people that have experience to share.

Welcome. glad you found us. Dealing with our loved ones addictions alone is to much for most of us to do alone. The good news is I do not have to. The more I reach out and ask for help and become willing to work the program the more I am able to feel centered and reclaim my life in spite of what my loved one is doing. Keep coming back.

Welcome Sunny Frogs,
I wanted to run away too when I first came in. It's a honest response, many have it; some even try it; but we all learn that geographical cures don't work. If we (or I in this case) run away from the alcoholics, they either follow us, we find new ones to 'save' or both! LOL I suggest that you stay right where you are and work on you. Glad you found us! Keep coming back.

Welcome. I'm glad you are here. I also hope you find some face-to-face meetings. Everyone here is wonderful, but there's still something that's missing that you'll only get when you get to be surrounded by others in person. Maybe it's the silent, supportive body language. Maybe it's the hugs you receive (if you want them) before and after the meeting. Maybe it's hearing others speak through their pain, their hope, their solutions. But it's so special. I hope you gift yourself with that experience.

Aloha Sunny Frogs (lol) and also glad you have found the MIP Family. I do relate to your post about alcoholics all around you as that was me also including family of origin and my friends and alcoholic/addict wife. We do what we are accustomed to and I had to learn how to love the one person I had lived my whole life with and didn't love...me. I also had to leave my drinking people, places and things so it was everyone. Of course I still knew where they were and did see them time and again however alcohol wasn't allowed back in my life then and now so I got free and put the serene and sober people in my life and found my own serene and sober life.
Keep coming back and join us there are miracles you can have from working this program. (((((hugs)))))

Welcome SunnyFrogs! Ive often joked about packing a small u-haul and driving into the sunset. Problem is....I would leave my peeps behind, but Id still have me....who also needs work.
Alanon has made such a difference in my life.....in all relationships; not just with my alcoholics.
I also recommend face to face meetings if possible. Some dive into the program and some tiptoe in....whatever pace you decide is up to you. Welcome again and keep coming back!

Welcome, SunnyFrogs! Love the name!
I am sorry for what brings you here. Addiction is an insidious, evil disease. One in which we are completely powerless over! I used to dream of leaving the house one day and never returning. I would run elaborate fictional "solutions" in my head. In the end, I knew I could not just up and leave my son. But I too, felt like I was drowning.
You have taken the first step in healing YOU. Welcome. Keep coming back!

Welcome to MIP SunnyFrogs - sorry I am late to the 'party'! I too am glad you found us and glad you joined right in! Alcoholism is a powerful disease that is progressive and cunning. I too am sorry that it's brought you here - yet for me, I have found a deep gratitude for it 'now' as I am a much better version of me than when I arrived.
I hope you know you are not alone. I hope you see that there truly is hope and help in recovery. I too encourage you to seek out and attend some meetings, keeping an open mind looking for similarities vs. differences. There is no pain or issue to big that recovery can't help you heal/deal from!
Please keep coming back here too....you are now part of the MIP family!
