Worry -- that is the topic of today's reading in our ODAT. Worrying can become a habit where we ruminate on the past and predict that dreadful things will happen in the future. The solution is living one day at a time. Using this manageable amount of time well gives us freedom from yesterday and tomorrow.
Today's reminder: I will not allow myself to be swamped by thoughts of things that are past. I will not concern myself about tomorrow until it becomes my today. The better I use today, the more likely it is that tomorrow will be bright.
Quote: "Let not my thought fantasies lead me into anticipating trouble, since I cannot know what the future may bring."
This topic was meant for me! I believe that I may have inherited a worrying gene from my parents -- who were great parents, but they could worry about anything. This trait gives me the ability to plan ahead and be detail-oriented and methodical -- but, also, I can make up some really wild stories about the future! The slogan One Day At A Time has been my life-saver. Thankfully today I can use it to pull myself out of the whirlpool of worry.
I want to share some wisdom that was given to me by a very wise yoga teacher. She gave the example of staying in the present by saying, "If you get phone calls from the past, just hang up." I thought, well, that solves half of my problem, but I had to ask her, what about those phone calls I get from the future? Her solution was, "Just tell them that what is happening now is more interesting."

Good morning MIP! Spring has sprung, the birds are singing and the sun is coming up on a wonderful Friday here in middle Tennessee. My wife is 38 days sober today but she still struggles with what I call her "dark side" (depression). I am grateful for this program of fellowship that has taught me to worry less about changing the things that I cannot control. Accept the disease for what it is and not "pick up the rope" when she throws barbs of her disease to try and suck me in to an argument/shouting match that is unwinnable. I am thankful this morning for the interwebs that provide great resources such as this site that I discovered yesterday. A place where I do not have to worry that I am alone in my struggles and can get support in time of need. I am slowly gaining the courage to change myself as I have come to realize that I am as nutty as a squirrel turd and need all the help I can get.

Good Morning Freetime and Steve Worry was once my middle name. Then i found alanon , picked up the tools of detachment, prayer and living one day at a time and it lifted. Today I live in the moment and day, pray often and trust that I will be given all I need to lie my life successfully Freetime, thanks for your service.

Thank you Freetime for your service and the Daily! Welcome to MIP Steve - so glad you found us and that you joined right in....I am also experiencing spring and boy - what a welcome change from this past winter. Bulbs are popping up, grass is waking up and I am so grateful!
I too believe I have a worry gene or had it taught to me from as long back as I can remember. I too found tools in Al-Anon to make the most of each possible day no matter what anyone is/is not doing around me. What a gift to find freedom from the way I was before. I struggle to find the words to express my gratitude at times and yet I know still that the best is yet to come!
Happy Friday to all - make it a great day. I am finally done with painting @ my son's house until the do some repairs, so just golf today. I love being outdoors as the season's change - still looking for my 3 season retirement place...ha.ha.ha!

I found that they way I was living before, I was missing out on the really good stuff that was happening that moment!! So I remind myself to not overlook the good in each day... so I too, love One Day at a Time!
Embracing this slogan helps me to stay out of 'Future Tripping.' This keeps me more at peace with myself, and more mindful of what is happening right now.
Your Yogi sounds so wise! I love that she didn't skip a beat answering your second question! LOL!
