My home groups topic next week is healing. Any thoughts, ideas or pages from COL?
Thanks

Great topic! Some thoughts that occur to me are: Self-care, how do I take care of myself? What wounds do I have that need healing, and do I understand that I deserve healing? What greater powers are available to help me heal? Do I have a relationship that needs healing, and how can I address my part in that?
In the book How Al-Anon Works, Chapter 12 is about Taking Care of Ourselves, and has many good ideas.
I hope you'll come back and let us know how your meeting went.

Hi Mikael. The words that came to mind for me are patience and time. No healing can occur overnight . And I think for those of us who have had years of exposure to alcoholism, it can be years of healing needed. And since we can only have progress, not perfection, I am ready for the long haul, Lyne. Keep coming back!

With healing, recovery, even doing the work...I look at my part, my role, my contribution. What is it that I have to do? We learn in the steps and in the alanon program that we seek, want, pray, for knowledge of our HP's will...and for the power to carry that out...for the power so that WE can carry that out. Our HP doesn't do it for us, WE have to carry that out. Get it.
We have to be gentle unto ourselves, not beat ourselves us...time takes time...little by slowly.
It works if YOU work it, so work it, YOU are worth it.

Certain healing just happens. Scars fade over time...there it is again, time, little by slowly.
But other healing...takes work, effort, action, change, doing something. When someone is ready, they will be ready.

For me healing became being different than the person I came into recovery as. I had no picture as to how I should or would be I just over time wanted to be different than the sick person I was at that time and if I continued to work the program I would heal better and better with the honest and willing effort. It has happened and I am grateful. Higher Power continues to show me where I came from, What happened and what it is like now. Healing. ((((Hugs))))

When I consider healing as a topic, and our goal of providing ESH, what popped into my mind was HOW Healing Happens - Honesty, Open_Mindedness, Willingness. I also can go opposite - what prevents our healing - EGO - Edging God Out.
Welcome Mikael to MIP! Great topic - hope your meeting(s) are awesome! Keep coming back.

Opening Our Hearts, Transforming Our Losses comes to mind as a great book on the subject of healing. Most of our literature really does focus on healing - it's all a part of our process of change, I feel.
I've always been encouraged by my sponsor to look in the back index of my CAL to find passages on specific topics. I don't have a book in front of me, but I'm sure if you look up "healing" or "self-care" as was suggested earlier, you'll find a lot of beautiful, thought-provoking content.
Have a great meeting!
