The share today is about grief and loss. The author reflects that many of us have lost so much or experienced so much grief, we try to cling to a moment, and resist change. Not because all change is bad, but because we have had so much loss and grief in our past, that we like to hold onto the positive moments. The author reflects that change can be positive, and that by feeling our emotions, we are able to move forward, through, and past them. We aren't stuck in pain or grief, we are ready to experience change and joy.

I can really identify with the author of today's share. I see myself resisting change, clinging to memories, before I worked the steps the first time, I even clung to grief and pain - the last pieces remaining of my relationship with my late partner. Thanks to the program, I am becoming more open to change and opportunities again. I'm less afraid of making decisions, and more willing to let go of a moment trusting that something even better is next.
I just love the reminder. Often, I feel like I'm going through the motions - it can feel like I'm standing still in my recovery. But then, something will happen that demonstrates that I haven't been standing still at all. I've been showing up and doing the work, and change is happening so gradually I don't notice it until I face a challenge or crisis - then I can see how far I have come.
I hope everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving has a wonderful holiday!

This share, and your ESH actually reminded me of my ExAH. I don't think it's a reflection of the disease, I just think it's more about who he is as a person. He is sober today, really working a strong program (as far as I am willing to know), but I sometimes think he clings to "friendship" with me b/c he cannot move forward.
For myself, I really like the Reminder: "I am always moving forward or backward in recovery. There is no such thing as standing still."
It really reminds me that even when we "Do Nothing," that in itself is actually is an action in recovery!
Skorpi, I hope that you get to spend Thanksgiving with your loved ones!

Thank you Skorpi I can readily identify with the loss and grief of which this reading speaks and am ever grateful that alanon has provided me with the healthy tools to keep showing up, with love. Staying in the present moment and in the day feeling the joy and experiencing all life has to offer is truly a great gift. I am sorryy that you are in pain and assure you you that when you feel you are not growing you are indeed " growing on the inside

Oh boy - I was one who really disliked change. I really, really like structure and don't do well with spontaneous moments....With recovery, I am far more flexible than ever before and it's still not always comfortable. Yet, it does feel good to just go with the flow, allow others to lead, stress, right-fight, etc. I have changed so, so much in recovery - much of it by just keeping my mouth shut and listening to others.
I felt sadness and grief for my losses, and I took it upon myself to do the same for others' losses. Life really is good and there are just bad moments, not bad days as I used to think. I have a new pair of glasses thanks to recovery and things really appear better through them.
I have hard that quote before and we use it often in the other side of the program. It makes perfect sense to me and I do believe and embrace it!
I'm a tired gal tonight after shopping for T-giving, taking a long run this AM and then playing a spontaneous game of golf with my son and my 'new caddy' - the oldest grandson! We had a good time and a great weather day...grateful for a lovely day that went different than planned!!

Change still scares me and repulses me. Never liked bc change always meant pain and loss
It still does but it has brought me joy, also
I think it feels threatening bc it was in the past. Now I work through the feelings. Keep things simple when under pressure and work what options I have. Or disconnect from it and let the universe find/establish balance
