TODAYS REMINDER
I know that constant dwelling on my troubles lessens my ability to see them clearly and make wise decisions. I will not complicate the present by reviewing the past; nor will I dread what may happen tomorrow. One way to make detachment easier is to eliminate the past and future from my thoughts.
He who frees himself of hampering regrets for the past and worry about what lies ahead finds himself able to deal with the present.
**************************** I can so relate to the "life coming at me from all sides" and I can't dodge the continued bullets...Now, after 14 years, nearly 15, I can say , honestly that life is better because of ME and my responses...I stop..breathe...wait...reach out for help...research...pray/meditate, but the big thing is releasing ME from the unwanted energies coming at me..Negatives cannot live if they have nothing to eat (my resisting and fighting the situations) so i do what I can to starve the negatives by first I have to feel the feelings, let them pass, then on to the "OK..what NOW can I do to take care of me" and the slogans are a BIG part of it..Also, not "awfulizing" the situation like I used to do..Now I just "take it as it comes" deal with it with my steps, slogans, and other skills with which to detach, let go, step back, whatever I call it, it is backing off and allowing something higher than me to work on it...

When you wrote of "awfulizing the situation," I immediately connected with you! With working my Al-Anon Steps, I am realizing that I future-trip a lot! And I tend to "awfulize" things. I have told others in the past, that I think of the worst... if the worst happens, I am prepared... if not, well then I am pleasantly surprised!
But in doing this, I am stealing my serenity in the NOW. So I am working on keeping my thoughts in the present. Not always an easy thing for me. I think that is why this board is such a life-saver for me... perhaps even more so than the F2F!! Here I can read and process... in my own time and way. I don't feel the pressure to respond with something at the moment. Don't get me wrong... I do love my F2F meeting. It just provides a different layer of recovery for me.

yea, the "awfulizing" things , I began doing that because if it DID work out, then I was in the "plus" zone......NOW its yea, prep. for the POSSIBILITY that its bad, but MAYBE it is NOT so bad....so be in the middle somewhere...keep my expectations reasonable, stay in the now and tell myself that "Yea, it can be bad, it can be OK" and i work to stay in the present and think of the good things that ARE in my life.....
It goes back to the concentration camp where it WAS the worst that happened, but even then, I had options and escape plans that did work...like I was resourceful enough to have escape routes and there were places where I could run to, so even THEN, it was not a "slam dunk" that I was gonna be flatlined.....I did have a way out...and I used them, many times....
so when I think of that, I am growing some faith in ME...and my ability to think on my feet, creativity when "under fire" ...I saw a LOT of really cool things about myself in surviving and NOW , with recovery, its on to THRIVING!!!!!

OMG...Betty, today you would not believe my being "tested" on detaching and moving on....I wanted to do TWO things and that was basketball and tennis....I go to the park because its beeeutiful outside and I wanted to play out doors...so i go to park, its full...ok, i'll get groceries....i get there and a guy steps right in my path, wanting $$, yep, the pandhandlers are out in full...I tell him, I have no cash on me , have to borrow on the card...he says to me "well you can use your CC and buy my groceries" and I just plainly, w/out nastiness told him that I have noone to care for me but me and my money is VERY limited..I had to cut out certain favorite foods because I don't work as much...sorry, but I cannot give to another when I'm struggling to take care of me...I wished him well, but stuck to my ground...he was hitting up a LOT of people.....yea, if he is REEEELY in strife, I am truly sorry, but lots of them are fakes..and here I WORK for what I got and it aint much, so I left him and did my shopping..kept to the budget by under $4, walked out had already detached in store, and I always look around me for possible robbers or something, and I park where lots of traffic is gonna be...so i get in my car, lock myself inside, go BACK to the park and its free...I shoot some hoops, practice some shots, dribbling, passing teh ball, etc., and i get tired of it and decide to go play tennis on the indoor practice courts at the gym...I go there and this guy is outside, sitting in a chair and he asks me if I am a member...I tell him yes, and he says, club is closed till Tues., we had a main water pipe burst...I tell him "OH GOSH, i am so sorry" and he tells me alternate places I can go and i just said "aww , i think I'll just go home, do the wash and wash my floors, get my exercise that way" and he laughs...I leave and I go to my favorite back end of a store and I hit some tennis balls against the wall, got some good practice in and went home to do my stuff
so yea, I had to detach, let go, shift gears, change directions, come up with alternate plans, but I got what I wanted done....unorthodox?? yep, but i got my needs met today, LOL

((Rose)) sounds like a really challenging day and I think that you handled it very well. I do believe your program tools kicked in and saved your sanity

LOL ((((Betty)))) well the cucka didn't stop with that...I do 2 loads of wash and I notice water...on top of dryer...going out the dryer exhaust hose??? I had to stop....REEEELY breathe as I traced it (water to its highest point was on top of dryer) so whats on top of dryer??? the washer hose and the pool hose drain hose I connected to it so I can drain outside the back door as my drain pipe where I am SUPPOSED to drain my water is either broke or severly clogged...had 3 plumbers look at it and that many opinions...so I knew I was looking at big money and had to "let it go"
anyway, on old washer, drain rigged up hose assembly worked fine...THIS new washer, has new pump, so more power probably going through the drain hoses....the guy who set it up when he delivered didn't tighten the hose clamps i had on it tight enough..I truly believe that and the water was getting by the hose clamps, leaking onto the dryer top, dripping down to the exhaust hose I have inside, point to ceiling because when running dryer, winter heat doesn't kick on, as dryer heats up house AND drys my clothes so dry clothes, enjoy house heat.....
anyway, I took the pool drain hose off, cut it so to have clean piece and RE installed it on washer drain hose and I tightened the hose clamps real good....so it shouldn't leak....I hope not...I wold be surprised if it did, also I "aimed" it more pointing down so as to , if it does leak, it will just go on floor and i'll be watching for it this time
so yea, I had to FIRST thank HP for looking out for me and SECOND, I did call my engineer friend to "verify" my findings with him and he said It sounded like I was spot on...any trouble?? call him and he will come out and see what HE can do...I'll just deduct it from his income tax returns that I have to finish....good ole barter...
yea, I would go nuts if I didn't have program, with one thing after another, dodging bullets, putting out "fires" yea, i used to just spiral into a panic, now not to say this didn't scare me a bit, but I was able to STOP and BREATH...."OK, whats coming at me NOW and what can I do???" there is always an option/answer when the mind is not racing..and believe it or not, It wasn't racing...perturbed?? yea, but I just took care of it, cleaned up the mess, got my clothes put away, now its time to relax and check my Facebook crime group in which I am a moderator....hoping the "crimeys" are behaving themselves, as the admin (owner) is from IRE and most likely in bed, so its sorta my watch during evening hours...For the most part, everyone shares good news stories or links that we can watch and its fun entertainment....Everybody on there knows I am fair and kind, but ZERO tolerance for abusive , attacking, threatening posts....we all share links to current and past famous criminals and crimes..I posted on there about the great train robbery, a movie made of it, that happened in UK during the 1960s, I think...its fun, we found a Russian site we can watch stuff on so world wide, we watch crime shows, LOL....
did you see my link i uploaded to my YT channel on the puppy??? Holy moly she has grown since I first got her...She was easy to lift and carry, but now shes getting to be a "load"...good baby..real obedient and mellow, not mischievous in the house , already barks at strangers she sees walking down the sidewalk near our yard....I have the link on my "love only flows to the open heart" aka critter corner as our dear Temple named it...
Yea, today was one for the books, but yours truly MADE herself stop and breathe, work my options....
Maybe tomorrow I'll lay low so I'll have a quiet day!! JUST kidding...going to my other gym and workout in the pool...then do the steam room and back home to just enjoy

((((Betty))))) TODAY is a NEW day....I am doing the "S" prayer as I begin this day....I'm sure I figured out the mysterious water issue with the washing....going to the gym that I KNOW is open (better pool, anyway, but no indoor tennis, but thats fine!!! I want to swim) and dogs are bathed...outside playing while I begin my day....a NEW day and a NEW chance at better energies.....

so yea, I had to detach, let go, shift gears, change directions, come up with alternate plans, but I got what I wanted done....unorthodox?? yep, but i got my needs met today, LOL

anyway, on old washer, drain rigged up hose assembly worked fine...THIS new washer, has new pump, so more power probably going through the drain hoses....the guy who set it up when he delivered didn't tighten the hose clamps i had on it tight enough..I truly believe that and the water was getting by the hose clamps, leaking onto the dryer top, dripping down to the exhaust hose I have inside, point to ceiling because when running dryer, winter heat doesn't kick on, as dryer heats up house AND drys my clothes so dry clothes, enjoy house heat.....
