my ability to remember, and to think, has improved a lot.
I think about the key events in my life now- without slipping into the poors me's... ....the 'what if's and the if only's'.
It took a whole lot of letting go- to achieve this.
Age 8 or 10. My dad seems to have disappeared- and I was wondering where he was. I decided to camp out under the dining room table- with an eiderdown and blankets.
In the middle of the night I am woken up. Dad is over by the telephone with Tom. Tom is speaking on the phone to his wife- trying to explain why he will be late home, very late.
Looking back over my life- I do not know if it was the absences, or the presences that affected me the most.
But either, or both, were daily occurrences. They became a part of who I am.
The time I spent in the Alanon rooms whittled away at the feelings, and memories I did not know I had.
I am a child of Alanon now- and of the other 12 step group I belong to.
I belong here. I feel safe here.
I am understood here- and I understand.
Thanks for the share... ...

((David)) great memory and share. David Recovery is all about looking deep within and uncovering our innermost triggers so we can own them as you have done and then have HP fill the negative space with hope and wisdom. Thanks for sharing the journey

David - thank you for your share and honesty. What I find amazing about recovery is past events, memories, etc. always seem to rise up in me when I am willing/ready/able to deal with them. As I've aged and worked to recover, I find I see many past events differently than I did before. I am grateful for a new way to live, heal and deal and your share reminds me how it all works! I'm also glad you're part of my journey.

A few years back I was talking to my husband about something random. I suddenly remembered my mom having a sort of same conversation with her husband, I think it was about fixing their car? Me and my husband had talked about fixing the brakes on ours. I think by letting our guard down we start to remember things as small as they are. Its weird how that tends to happen. I think its a sign of healing since I could never really remember anything from when I was younger. I guess we are more able to deal with it now.
