Alcoholism is a disease: The writer spoke of the need to accept alcoholism as a real disease, just like tuberculosis or diabetes. With that acceptance , she could stop trying to cure her loved one. She also decided to stop blaming the alcoholic, for it was beyond his/her control. The best thing she could do was focus on her own recovery, where her efforts could do some good. Good Mornigng Lyne I too had difficulty accepting the fact that alcoholism was a disease but once my "Know it all" attitude accepted this basic truth program fell into place and the tools were easy to implement "Acceptance" was the key to much of my recovery work I stopped reacting and started to reason things out and when i did I found that I could fce life with courage, serenity and wisdom Thank you for your service your recovery is impressive

I, too, thought I would discover in Al-Anon the secret to getting my alcoholic wife to stop drinking. What I found was the secret to making myself happy, regardless of what she was doing.
I've heard it said that my recovery can be as easy or as hard as I want it to be. I'm so glad I've decided to stop making it hard with the help of my Al-Anon program and friends.

Thank you Lyne for your service and the daily! Thanks to all for your ESH and shares....I know that when I stopped blaming my guys and instead accepted it as a disease, it did clear the path for changed attitudes and thinking in me. For so, so long I took it all personally and obsessed over why they were choosing to do what they were doing. It was an insane, circular thinking and obsession for me, and I do not think I would have found serenity without accepting alcoholism as a disease that is outside my control.
Life is easier when I keep things simple. Fighting the disease and the diseased has never ended well for me! Happy Monday (((all))) - make it a lovely day!
