I have been trying to focus on something within my job because I have been so utterly frustrated as of late and that is not working for me.
First I have lacked motivation and I am frustrated over things I can't change which is other people. That's really been a tough one, so I have chosen to remain aloof however professional unless I need something and I speak when spoken to however I keep my mouth shut. I don't involve others and it just is what it is .. it is always better to allow people to show themselves.
So that being said I am the keeper of receipts for the credit cards and I need a different way to get people motivated to turn them in .. LOL .. so something I am doing is sending out positive reinforcement to folks to make my life easy.
We have a company program that allows us to recognize other people in our office. I love that I can do this and don't know why I didn't think to do so sooner. It hit me big time since our last big office meeting. I am also tired of whining about what I don't get .. LOL. It's really hard.
It's no harm no foul kind of thing .. that means .. if I don't have it I don't have it and if I have to ask then I don't send anything out. So we will see how this goes moving forward.
I am grateful that this program has given me the opportunity to look at how to do things differently and how to apply my lessons in all of my affairs vs just sticking to one. It also reminds me on positive reinforcement that people need and want that even if they don't think they do .. lol. I have been stopped by multiple supervisors already thanking me for recognizing people who don't get enough positive feed back and our work can be very daunting to say the least.
I am also grateful for the fact I can separate myself from situations that do not involve me by reminding myself what is and is not my business. I have my own job to do and my own 8 hours to fill and I don't need to worry about what other people are doing. Boy oh boy I am even more grateful that I have a door to my office and I am alone on Friday's so I can just shut it when things get to out of control. Coming from me that's saying something because I am the least quiet bookkeeper you will meet .. LOL.
Anyway, .. I am sooo glad it's Friday!!

Hi Serenity, you have an office door ! That's something to be grateful for these days. In my working life, same company and increasingly responsible positions, I went from having an office with a door, to a cubicle, to an open-plan office, and then back to a very small cubicle and using noise-cancelling headphones to be able to concentrate ...
And great job on using the company recognition program. Years ago, I nominated someone for an award like that. I forgot about it. Many years later, when this person had her retirement celebration, she mentioned me by name in her speech and said that by doing so I had saved her job... she was at risk of being let go at the time, but because she had that award they didn't fire her, and she went on to a very successful career. So you just never know how you are paying it forward.

Happy belated Friday Serenity - love, love, love how you are trying new ways/tools to move forward. Yay for you!! When I was still working, I do recall how much more productive I felt with a door that closed than without one...glad you got one!

Well I want to follow up .. LOL .. it seems kind of silly now .. however you know being a human being isn't easy I swear being a woman is a double whammy at times. I think I am in menopause at the moment .. LOL. My idea got shut down and my hormones are in such flux at the moment I am late and emotional I literally went on meltdown furor .. I had to leave work early. I was going to cry if someone said anything. I literally had a mental meltdown in the worst way .. my saving grace was I removed myself as soon as possible or I was going to loose my mind.
I went home licked my ego hormone wounds and thought to myself I don't want to do this anymore .. there is a LOT of work drama going on and I am trying to stay out of it.
YES .. I have a door .. our offices are set up from back in the day when they remodeled I guess they could only change so much because it's part of the historical society. Outside can't change even though the inside can .. LOL .. since this was one of the first buildings it is what it is.
I'm taking a moment and pausing to decide if this is what I want to do for the next 20 years and if it's not that's ok .. I am going to find a way to feed my soul and pocket book without doing this other stuff. Book writing is at the top at the moment. I have enough stories to draw from given my own personal experience.
So today I am much better I don't feel like such a failure, my family is together for the next week and I really needed it. So when my kids start making me crazy remind me I wanted this on Saturday .. it's been a nice distraction to have them home together and for us to just be.

I got a bit of a chuckle Serenity - I remember all the years of being excited for spring break and then close to the last day, I was beyond ready for them to get back to their school routine....same for those summer breaks! I too am sending hopes for an enjoyable week with the kids!
As far as work goes, it took me years and more to get simple and realize that it's just a job....nobody is ever going to write about how hard I worked or what my title was in the workplace in my obituary or on my tombstone. You got this girl!!

The work thing is the sheer frustration there is no room for growth of any kind. The rules change like the wind. I have gotten 3 versions of feed back from top brass about what i did .. from you can't do that to great job .. lol .. so umm .. ok? So pretty much that tells me no one knows what they are doing lol .. which is nothing new. As long as I get a check I don't care. I blew up when I got to work. Happy Monday to me. Lol .. it's seriously wtf is wrong with people. I am in a 3 person department .. I am pissed because 2 of them don't get along and now thanks to my work partner I'm in the middle and I unloaded on her. It's ridiculous that people can't act like grow ups. The issues at hand have nothing to do with me. My boss knows how I feel about the meeting today considering I'm constantly dragged in to stupid stuff. She pulls me in to things I'm not interested in. The meeting isn't about me .. it's not about the department .. it's the fact two people can't get along. I don't like the other gal however I'm not going to complain. Nothing is done so these meetings are pointless. Unless something changes I'm not interested. Grow up move forward. I am so glad my kids are home. Lol I have some grounding. So I will just keep moving forward. Hugs s :)

I am really feeling this topic right now. Although in my case I feel that I have an excellent employer but that my position is somewhat odd and doesn't have adequate support at times. Add on to that everything that I've been working on in the last month's and I've really been struggling at work. Sometimes feels like I'm failing at every aspect of my life whereas work used to always be my solid spot.
I'm working on improving there too and it will get better.

Omgosh Westman.. I relate so much .. I always viewed work as a place of escape .. So I started reading about step 1 (again) reminding myself my human limitations no matter how much my mother tells me I can control the weather .. people places and things are also on the list of things I can't control .. that includes natural disasters. I think I'm just going to sit in step 1 for a bit and gel. See where I am at the end of the week. I'm working with a temporary sponsor and actively looking for face to face meetings. So far only 1 and that's disappointing based upon time. Reading .. talking and just saying ok I can do this and try to be better than the day before .. lots of deep breathing .. Lol. Hugs S ;)
