through our commitment to anonymity we can put aside what we are and begin to know who we are.
if I want the benefits the program has to offer,I have an obligation to extend to others the same respect and courtesy that keep me feeling safe ,free from labels,and free to be myself.
well spoken,I to feel this same way,I come to share my feelings or whatever I need to share ,always feeling confident that when I leave my meetings everything that's spoken there is kept within our minds and the walls of alanon,makes me feel much lighter upon departure .knowing this and that I've shared along with others with the same understanding of what we all are or have been going through.living within the desease of alcoholism/drug abuse.
qoute at bottom of page plainly states this,
"each person should be able to leave an alanon meeting secure in the knowledge that what he or she has shared will not be repeated" .......doesn't say who said that except why anonymity in alanon.

When I first heard about anonymity in our programs, I believed that the reason was to protect us from the stigma of alcoholism, because it was shameful to have it or to be associated with it. People could lose their jobs, friends, and status in the community if the word got out.
And while I'm sure there is truth to this, I've listened and learned that there are other good reasons for anonymity. One is humility. My profession, name, bank account, address -- have nothing to do with why I am there and do not make me any different than anyone else. It helps us be a fellowship of equals. We are on a first-name basis from Day One because we already know one another's deepest feelings, even if we haven't shared them outwardly. It's not so much about keeping secrets as it is about sharing those secrets in a safe place.
Anonymity --- one more reason I am grateful today.

Thanks for the daily and both your insights. The idea of anonymity is wonderful and I hope the majority of folks try to practice it. I cant say there is much about alanon I disagree with. I continue to learn, grow and change. All good, Lyne

Anonymity for me reminds me also that no matter title, income, gender, length of time or 'other' - we are all equals when we walk in the rooms. I have learned from every member - new and old and love that we have a place to share knowing what's said stays.....what a freedom - grateful!

Early on in recovery I learned that is was the message that was most important rather than the messenger and so presently I have a warehouse of very supportive messages and rarely can remember who delivered them. Still I am most grateful for all who did. Have a great day ((((hugs))))

I always believe that we are anonymous, but not invisible...
I learned the boundary line from older timers... there are some group matters we are able to discuss freely and openly-
but we never ever discuss personal shares... these days i feel relaxed around this issue. I sometimes see and hear a slip-
and ask myself- 'how important is it?' And the answer always is- "it depends".
Together we maintain the safety and integrity of our groups, an dof Alanon as a whole.
Lives depend on it sometimes...

That old saying,"loose lips, sink ships" came to mind. Personally I don't care who knows I go to Alanon ....but I do care that what I share and others share doesn't leave the "rooms." It's too bad that programs, businesses and even churches aren't built on the traditions.....what a different world:)
