i Lu I will need to check with Tanin as to why this new "Verify" code was installed. All we have to do is click on the "veriify me" button" and in a few minutes we see check to indicate' approved "and are then able to click on "enter " to access the chat room.
I will let everyone know when i hear

Betty - I tried to test it and have 'added security' on my systems. I got a warning that the 'web-site was trying to mine crypto-currency. I could do the research to understand what this means, but I had my security block the site from doing so instead.
I too go no-where. It's been a while since I've tried to sign on and it used to just ask for a name and one would hit enter and voila!!! So - I don't know if it's the captcha addition that's causing the problem or if there is more going on based on the error message.
This intends to just add a bit more for Tanin to trouble-shoot!

Thanks IAH Tanin still has not responded however i did get this information off the site
When you click the "Verify Me" box, the Proof of Work Captcha safely runs a small piece of JavaScript code within your Browser's sandbox. This code solves a mathematical puzzle that is quite processor intensive.
Whenever your Browser finds a solution to this puzzle, it sends it over to our servers where it is verified. Once your Browser has submitted enough valid solutions, our servers will allow you to submit the form.
This essentially works like Google's reCaptcha (you know, the one where you have to proof you're human by selecting all street signs from a bunch of images). This captcha however lets your Browser do all the work.
Sounds harmles as if it is checking to make sure we are not robots
More will be uncovered when we hear from Tanin

Thanks for bringing this to attention. My experience is that when checking off the box in VERIFY, the loading is very slow. I chose to look for more information by clicking on "what is this," My virus program flagged that action as dangerous and blocked/stopped my navigation to that page.
My concern is about getting a virus in my computer. I love our meetings and our group but computers can be expensive to fix or replace. I'm opping to enjoy the rest of this site for now until we have more answers.
Thanks to everyone who is trying to resolve this issue. TT

I too will not allow it to load 'as designed' as I don't want viruses and/or malware or even spying on my computer. I got the same warnings TT and allowed it to try and complete with my protection in place. It would not.

Good Evening All
Here is Tanin's response
I have checked this new situation and it is both complicated and simple. The basic description is that previously when we got to the chat room login page we would then do two steps:
1. Choose a nickname
2. Click on Blue Connect button
----------------------------------------
Now, we have three steps to do:
1. Choose a nickname
2. Click on Verify Me button--wait until the verify process is completed (15-55 seconds)
3. Click on Blue Connect button
----------------------------------------
After doing step 3, everything should be what we normally saw before.
The coinhive verification process is a JavaScript object called a crypto miner. This object uses some CPU cycles of the computer logging in to generate some value for the Mibbit site. It is directly related to crypto currency.
The proposition by Mibbit is: Come use our chat widget for free (no money). But we will shave off a little bit of computer power in order to defray our costs.
Many other sites are experimenting with the coinhive process. It appears to be safe for us users.

The Verify process will run slow on some computers, especially older or underpowered ones. The Verify process may also be slow on smartphones.
Is it possible for you, lu, to log onto another computer? At least once, for comparison.

Tanin - my system security won't allow it to run because of the consumption of CPU Power. I could 'turn off' my security but will not do so. I suspect I am not alone in this decision. I did a quick google search, and other sites are bailing on Mibbit because of this - are there other options for MIP?

I won't suggest you you turn off y our system security software, IAH. That's your call.
Yes, the coinhive miner issue is controversial. And some sites that have it are getting blowback from regular users like us. For that reason I feel that it's possible that Mibbit, our chat facilitator, may decide the coinhive verification is not worth the trouble and cancel the experiment. I kinda think that will happen.
In the meantime I will look for a solution to the system security conflict problem you describe. I also think others may have the same issue.
I will report back tonight.

Looking around the various conversations on the net, there probably is no surefire solution for the antivirus or ad blocker software identifying the crypto miner as suspicious or malicious code. I see that Coinhive may be rewriting its miner so that it will pass scrutiny by Norton. But there is no timetable for that.
For right now, we are stuck with what Mibbit has installed on its site. I will keep looking for a workaround.
