Tis a fearful thing to love what death can touch. A fearful thing to love, to hope, to dream, to be to be, And oh, to lose. A thing for fools, this, And a holy thing, a holy thing to love. For your life has lived in me, your laugh once lifted me, your word was gift to me. To remember this brings painful joy. Tis a human thing, love, a holy thing, to love what death has touched.

Sad to hear this poem at this time of losing of my Dad just before Christmas. It is so true that to love is to risk the devastation of loss. It is courageous to love fully with an open heart. With the death of a senior parent, you think you will be prepared when it happens, but nothing prepares you for the hurt, especially when it is sudden and out of the blue. I always imagined a gradual decline when he got old and a goodbye. Instead, one day he was just gone. Another few days and I would have seen him at Christmas. So sad. Thank you.

Tigger .. nothing prepares anyone for death. There is never a good time. As children we can't believe our elders die and as parents we can't imagine our children going first. Big hugs .. I hope you find comfort in this because as humans it is scary to love and lose. Hugs s :)

Serenity, this was beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with all.
Tigger - My sympathies to you upon the loss of your father. It is scary to know that we never have control of when the end comes. Perhaps that is why human nature is to not think about it.

Thank you for posting this Serenity, so true and beautifully expressed. Happy new year to you and yours.
Tis a fearful thing
to love what death can touch.
A fearful thing
to love, to hope, to dream, to be
to be,
And oh, to lose.
A thing for fools, this,
And a holy thing,
a holy thing
to love.
For your life has lived in me,
your laugh once lifted me,
your word was gift to me.
To remember this brings painful joy.
Tis a human thing, love,
a holy thing, to love
what death has touched.
