The C2C reading for December 30 reminds us that the unpleasant things that people do have no power to destroy us or to ruin our day, unless we agree to permit it. The reading asks the question- do I allow myself to respond to the words of a sick person as if they were the ultimate truth?
It suggests that sometimes we play the martyr role and do not realize it. We may do this because suffering has brought us a lot of attention and pity in the past and we are accustomed to blaming others for everything.
It suggests that If we have avoided taking responsibility for our own lives,we have benefited from this pain. But these benefits are no longer worth the price. In entering Al-Anon we find out who we really are so that with the help of our Higher Power and program we learn to live and let live .
We soon discover that there is a truly beautiful, strong, courageous person within who does not need to build an identity around suffering. We are learning to let go of negative tools and allow that person to thrive.. .I Loved this sentence in the reading that states "There is so much to appreciate in this life. I won't waste another moment, feeling sorry for myself." I finally agree

This reading was difficult for me to accept earlier. I was accustomed to blaming others, for my misfortune and not willing to look at myself-- probably because they did not have the appropriate tools to deal with what I covered. The slogans the steps sponsor and meetings provided me with the necessary tools to assume responsibility for my own life and the embrace the beauty that I find.

Good morning all. Thank you Betty and Aline for your ESH and shares. Thank you Betty for your service and the daily. I too arrived with a long-standing habit of blaming others. Not only did I blame others often/always, I truly believed that if they would only 'conform to norm', I would be happy...
As I consider that now with some program experience, my view of life and expectations of others were not healthy. I also had a habit of reacting fast and furious to 'harm' caused/done by others. I never had considered pausing, looking at the facts and the source, and consider a healthy response instead of 'like meets like'.
I'm grateful that I love me enough today to be/do different. I am grateful the program has given me the tools to find my value in lieu of what others think/say/do. I'm beyond words grateful for a spiritual solution to this cunning, baffling and powerful disease and it's affect. Who know that admitting powerlessness would result in a restoration to sanity and worth?
Happy Saturday to one and all - headed out in a bit for my morning meeting. I have missed 2 weeks due to this darn influenza! Finally feeling human enough to attend and not contaminate another. Make it a great day.

thanks betty .. read this wrong .. ? for the first time read this as do (I) respond (with) words of a sick person as if they were the ultimate truth .. remembering and reminded this morning (I) also have been effected by a disease and need to choose my words (and thoughts) more 'wisely .
