Gifts from Alanon : Today's reading talks about what the writer accomplished from being a member of Alanon as well as from having a relationship with HP. These gifts include proud of being a survivor, acknowlegement of having dignity, having a wealth of experience that he/she can share, doesn't need to fear the future, and that he can face anything that comes along. He feels like a stronger person and no longer views his life as a tragedy.
Today's reminder: If I so choose, I can regard everything that happens in my life as a gift from which I can learn and grow. Today I will find something positive hidden within a difficult situation and allow myself to be grateful. I may be surprised at how much a little gratitude can help.

I am not glad I live with an A, but I must admit that the suffering I was in brought me to Alanon, which is one of the best decisions I have made in my life. After years of therapy which helped a little, nothing brought me out of my bottomless pit until I began program. I am still a work in progress but I have come a long way, and therefore look forward to continuing growth and healing. I will try and look for a positive that is hidden in a difficult situation . Thanks for sharing. I have been in Alanon for a long time now. I am look for changes to take place in my life as well. Alanon as mad eme much stronger as I do still live with an A BF. I am learning to be independent once again in little steps and survive. I hope to move out the current situation as that won't change for the better. But, it will help me to grow and be much stronger. I am blind and a Business owner and a student in college. I thank you for sharing your thoughts and how it is helping you.

Entering alanon, I did not know that i did not know. i am so very grateful to program and the many members who were patient, kind and understanding in listening to me and sharing their ESH, I am also grateful for the Steps, slogans and meetings because I found the courage, serenity and wisdom to live my life with self respect and dignity .

AlAnon was the best decision for me, and my utter despair brought me here. I am thankful for my wife, because without her, I would not have found AlAnon. The program has helped me in all aspects of my life, and I am very thankful for these gifts and positive change.
Once thing I started to do a few years ago (after hearing a woman at another institution do this) was use the word "opportunity" in place of the words "problem" or "challenge" - Instead of saying "This is a problem that we need to deal with today" I now say "Today we have the opportunity to make some positive change." That outlook felt artificial at first, but now I really do see challenges as opportunities for something better to come.

Thank you Lyne for your service, the daily and your ESH. Thank you to all others above who shared their ESH as well. I too came not knowing what I did not know. Overtime, I too became aware that I could find peace and joy using this program and my HP no matter what others were/were not doing. I too am not grateful that the disease is present in my family yet I do have a deep sense of gratitude for the program/recovery.

Thanks so much for your service, Lyne, and all the ESH. This so speaks to me today. I too am a survivor, for which I'm very, very grateful mainly to Alanon. And proud as well! I made it from a deep black hole to now when I'm actually enjoying life, at least some of the time. And I believe things will only get better as long as work the program! I've heard about viewing problems as opportunities before, but it takes more than once for things to sink in for me, and that's OK. What a great attitude that is, something to work towards for sure. Love to all :)

I am happier today than I have been at anytime and it is all due to recovery. I wouldn't say it was a blessing to have an alcoholic partner. I would say the meltdown from that took me to a better place
When I.divorced my.ex husband that divorce became a catalyst for his recovery. It certainly didn't result in a #hallmark# relationship with him. He always and still does harbor resentment. Nevertheless our #relationship# was the beginning of a sea change for him. The issue is it wasn't #me# doing his recovery. At a certain point he had to become #willing# to recover. When I deal with others (like my younger sister) I have to look at she never got to that place of willingness. I cannot manufacture that for her. I cannot manufacture it foir anyone
