First Things First: The writer speaks of getting caught up in day-to-day trivial matters and therefore he/she forgets to have time for the really important things. For him, a helpful slogan is First Things First, to get priorities in order. He says that his serenity if his first priority, and that requires a connection with HP.
Today's Reminder: As I think about what to do with this day, I will set some time aside some time for what is really important. I will put first things first today.
Quote from Henry David Thoreau: Let us spend one day as deliberately as Nature, and not be thrown off the track by every nutshell and mosquito's wing that falls on the rails.
For me this is a very useful slogan, especially when feeling overwhelmed . I am now able to sort out what can wait, and what is really important to do right now, and then maybe shortly thereafter . I have also discovered that if I prioritize my work for a day, I may not have time for everything , and that's OK. I've become more flexible, forgiving, and certainly try to get my first things first, Lyne

Hello Lyne Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this important slogan and concept. I do believe living one day at a time enabled me to place "First things First" and stay in the present moment. What a gift it is to "spend one day as deliberately as nature " Thanks for your service

Good morning MIP - thank you Lyne and Betty for your shares and ESH. Thank you Lyne for the daily and your service.
What a great quote -- I can readily admit that I am one who can be easily distracted by a falling 'nut' around me....Oh well - so grateful that we try to live One Day at a Time and I can, just for today, try to put First Things First. I went to both my typical meetings this weekend and both were on gratitude. It doesn't happen often where the topic is the same/similar, yet when it does - I assume it's a sign from my HP.
Just for today, I will be grateful while I try to focus on what's truly important in order for me to keep my serenity and spiritual placement. Make it a lovely Monday to one and all! (((Hugs)))

Good morning all, and thank you for this topic, Lyne!
Sometimes I think it would be easier to not be distracted by each falling nut if all my trees weren't walnut trees! lol! I find that it is important for me to begin my day in a thoughtful, intentional, program-filled manner. I like to be up early, and I use the quiet to engage in my self care and program work. I try to return to more self-care later in the day, but if I do happen to be distracted by urgent but unimportant things, at least I took the time to do important things first, first things first. I am getting better at prioritizing the urgent things, and I find that I prioritize better when I am surrounded by people who are good at prioritizing. It is helpful to hear people around me say "that is not urgent" and "that can wait". It helps me to keep my expectations of myself in check.
