Ohh I needed to see this ((((((((((Betty))))))))) thanks for your service and this share.....I slipped out of being mindful when my sister died, and I began to (out of not paying attention/being careful) have had stupid accidents....got burned with some hot water (healed now) banged my head on the door jamb, not paying attention, so I googled "why am I so accident prone" and right there it goes into mindfulness and to try it DAY TO DAY...just think in terms of "ok, TODAY, I am gonna pay attention" don't worry about tomorrow or all the screw ups/accidents in the past, just TODAY, pay attention, like GO BACK to what I was practicing and let go of with this death......so its back to practicing JUST FOR TODAY, I am gonna , even if I have to narrate to myself what I am doing, be mindful...seems of late I have been living in my head......so yea. my problem is not being in my body/being mindful a common symptom of child abuse survivors....I just have to "just for today" practice a healthier way to "do my life" thanks so much for what you do for this board and this "needed to see" share.............hugs

Betty, thank you for the reading. One of the things I like about Alanon is the encouragement to enjoy life, this day in particular, the one we have. Living with the A spouse took a toll I didn't realize was happening, until entering program and learning that I too was sickly.
I have to agree that staying in the present moment is very important, however, not always very easy for me. People and the world we live in are very unpredictable . I plan to keep practicing ODAT and Just for Today, to make a better life for myself and those around me, Lyne

dear Lyne: wish there was a BIG "LIKE" button for your post...I like what you said about "enjoy life, this day in particular" and that I, too was sickly from being around alcoholism..it permeats an entire family, so I need help too because of it......staying in the present is so very hard for me..if I am not grieving over the past, I am fearing the future and what MORE bad/unwanted karma is on its way to me...unable to trust in anything, makes it difficult......I am forcing me with gentle force to MAKE me stay in the present....and I sooo agree...."People and the world we live in are very unpredictable" a very scary proposition for one like me who likes predictability and being in control........I , too began yesterday, practicing ODAT and Just for today being mindful.....soooo hard for me..............

Thank you for your service, Betty, and all the shares above. I absolutely love this reading and totally agree on the importance of living one day at a time as much as possible. I especially like the bit about thinking of life, each day as research :) Whatever happens today is all I have to work with... Love it, thank you for sharing this!

Thank you Betty for your service and for the daily....with extra testosterone around (my bro, his son + son-in-law), my day's a bit different than normal! I read your post last night and the reading this morning and am a huge believer in ODAT! It has served me well for as long as I have worked with it.
Enjoying life as it unfolds works so much better for me. Just doing my part to be of service and allowing the results to be what they are is not always easy yet when I can keep things simple, stay in my own lane and just roll with it, the results are better than any plan I thought of.
I was taught early on to start my day with gratitude and prayer. I was also taught to end my day in the same manner. It has not ever failed me and this helps me realize that yesterday is already over, tomorrow is not yet here and today is where the joy is.
So, on this Saturday after playing ball late and taking a shot to the shin, I've done some cleaning and tons of cooking and I've got 8 males keeping my company....thank God that my spiritual adviser of the day (My sweet dog) is a gal - I am not completely overwhelmed.
Hope your day is great and that your joy is immense. Focusing on gratitude and what is working instead of what is not has been a game changer for me. I truly live my life now with no regrets and could not say that before recovery. (((Hugs)))
