Since my boy dog died, I've been trying to get the girl into routines for when I go out as she's never been alone before. She and boy dog came as a pair and now she wants me to be round all the time which I can't be when work starts in September. Anyway, the signal I"m going out is that she gets cheese. She loves cheese. I was giving it to her every night as a night time treat but the websites all say to keep her busy with something nice when she goes out. So I do cheese trails for her to find and she's starting to settle a little more now.
Anyway Alcoholic BF comes in drunk on Monday. And Tuesday. And Wednesday. And tonight. And each time he talks to the dog saying "it's time for cheese!" and each time I have to patiently say, No, we agreed she doesn't get cheese now. She can have any other treat but not cheese. We agreed on that. SO I have been getting frustrated with his alcoholic memory loss but patiently explaining to him. (he forgets even 2 minutes after I've said it. I've worked with people with Korsakoff's Syndrome before so I know how to remain patient with this)
And then it strikes me as funny that I am spending so much of my time arguing about cheese! The ridiculousness of it is making me smile. WHo else spends so much time discussing cheese for a dog!
And don't worry, I go out every day to get the dog used to being alone so she gets plenty of cheese!

Aloha Mizz...that paints a funny picture for me only at some point it comes out putting him on Cheese so he won't go out and drink...it could happen...lol (((hugs)))

Mizz - Sometimes it's so crazy you just have to laugh, huh? It is good to hear that your female dog is finding her way without her companion.
When you spoke of what your ABF does, it did make me smile, b/c I too, live with that nonsense. Both with my animals and my kid! Things that are discussed and agreed upon (only when I catch a sober moment) seem to be forgotten when my AH drinks. He acts so childish and does the things he's not supposed to, and then thinks I am a hard-a_ _ for gently reminding him of what needs to happen. Ugh!!!
Seriously, my AH cannot remember stuff I've told him (or kid has told him) not 5 minutes later!!! It's just sad.
