Hi All! So something interesting happened to me over the last 4 days. I had a huge work event in which I was the lead and responsible not only for my co-workers and their responsibilities but also responsible for the well-being of others. I am in healthcare to make it simple. It is a long hard 4 days of on my feet 15 hour days, almost no sleep, high intensity.
I am like most others in Al-Anon with my traits of loving to control, I'm always right, do it my way, etc. (hahaha) for my job and an event like this when I get to take charge I love it. I am a very organized person and want to do the very best job I can. That being said, my co-workers don't necessarily share all these wonderful traits. Come to think of it, it's probably a good thing bc then we would all want to be in charge. That wouldn't work so well!
Anyways... over the course of the weekend there were things that popped up (as things do) that in the past would have just set me off. I would stay mad all day, my energy would be negative, I would snap at people, and spend the evening drive back home telling everyone just how much I was right and this person or that person was wrong.
Instead I found myself letting go, and also addressing any issues that came up head on (amazing how that works- I'm usually very passive aggressive). I realized I couldn't control everyone, I had to trust them and set the situation up the best I could so that all could succeed to the best of their ability. One of my very best friends was also working the event, she knows me well and that I am in Al-Anon (etc) and we had a moment where I was like, wow I am so calm even tho I am irritated. I said look at me Al-Anoning. Haha
I guess I just realized that the tools I am (slowly) learning to help me with my active A, are also rubbing off in my every day life. Still have a long long ways to go, but I could feel the small change in me this weekend.
:)

Great share - thank you for bringing it here! Glad that you had a successful event and I too 'feel' the program in all aspects of my days! It's a gift that does keep on giving when we work it!!

Ahhhhh one of those it works when I work it moments. I have had some also and could hear my HP whisper and chuckle, "That's the way I do it also". When the program works it's a God thing. Good on you Pumpkin. Wait when the next one comes around and it will as a result of practice, practice, practice. I am looking for this outcome myself so thanks for the picture of it. ((((hugs))))
