Hi Misterbroon,
Welcome to the board. All of us have been affected by someone else's drinking and many of us love and want to help someone who is an alcoholic. The best thing you can do is get help for yourself. Attending face to face al anon meetings really helped me gain perspective on my husband's drinking. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's drinking and her situation. You will find lots of support in this program if you stick around. All the best!

I too send warm welcomes to you misterbroon - glad that you found us and glad that you shared. If your daughter admits she's got an issue, you can suggest recovery/treatment/other for her. AA is for the person who desires to stop drinking and Al-Anon is for friends and family affected by the drinking of another. You are welcome to attend Al-Anon whether your loved one is in recovery or not.
Please keep coming back and know that you are not alone! There is hope and help in recovery...

I feel your frustration and pain. I am fairly new here myself. The more experienced members always gently suggest to start with yourself. You are obviously concerned for the child so I get that you just want to just do something now! It sounds very positive that she has admitted that she knows she has a problem. I wonder how such a person gets to an alcohol counsellor or a family counsellor. Do you think she may be open to this? Do you go to AlAnon meetings yourself?
