At some point in my al-anon journey I started to understand that most folks try to put on their "best face" and hide the things that they don't want others to see...so when i am envying someone or thinking I am inferior to them I might well be envying/resenting someone who is in a worse place than I am- if there's one thing this program has truly opened my eyes to it's that I can't know what's really in the heart or mind of another person and that's great because it isn't my business to know! Striving to be the best possible version of myself is far more productive and inspiring than trying to live up to my imagined version of what someone else's life is Very grateful to have realised this.

My sponsor pointed out the slogan, Compare=Despair. Much earlier in my life I felt that every person was better than me. I was given no self-esteem or confidence in my childhood. Even if I excelled at something, I saw myself as the worst in the group. Over time, I learned to appreciate some things about myself, but it is only since Alanon that I have truly stopped thinking (most of the time, progress not perfection) that I am less than others. My only job is to be myself, and as I continue to strive for improvement, I have developed self-respect, even with my flaws. I am able to see the big picture, and not focus on my mistakes or shortcomings. This is a much better way to live life. I'm a grateful member of Alanon, Lyne

Good Morning and thank you Betty for C2C and hope you are having an amazing vacation. Thank you Miss M and Lynn for your ESH. In reading Alanon Hope for Today this morning a line in the daily share jumped out at me and relates to C2C. "I'm no longer a chameleon in order to gain acceptance."(alanon forum). Before recovery I constantly compared my insides to others outsides and set myself up for disappointed. I have learned that it's perfectly okay to be myself.

Lyne, I experienced early life in a similar way- "oh no, what will people think?" (so I learned to always examine and obsess over every thing I did to try to pinpoint why I was wrong and embarrassing. There's always a way to justify why you are inferior...if you know where to look, lol).
What a blessed relief to finally learn that I can just be, and do, without trying to measure myself against anyone else.

Thank you MissM for your service and happy Sunday to MIP family. When I stop comparing myself to others I get a sense of calm come over me and a feeling of peace knowing we're all loved equally by HP. Today I'm enjoying being me, it's so much more simple to be grateful and accepting of who I truly am.

I came in and filled a couple of items for Betty too... not sure how well ah did...???
Doing my Step 10 I came up my "competitionism" or envy. Not getting what I really deserved... feeling envious of others out there in the world who did better than me... or so I thought...
after years of Alanon and backing off from my anger and fear, I and my family ended up doing okay- or rather- pretty well... even in the recovery arena things are getting along okay- not perfect- but okay now...
I scrollback to your reading and quote... y'all know I kept pretty much on topic!!! My mind used to be a real wandering wally... truly... and even this thing seems to be working out okay...
just a reminder for me to keep coming back... to feel real gratitude... to have this meeting to measure myself against... which does make all the difference.
