I finally am here and going to meetings because my son, who is a user, has brought me to a place I never thought I would be. I never thought I would be in a position where I am so angry and betrayed that he and I get into a physical altercation. He is a grown man and after that day, I realized I needed help from a group of people that understand this pain and suffering and can help me learn to take care of myself in spite of what is going on around me. No one person should take my sunshine. I worked hard my whole life and another persons use is not my fault. Thank you for being here.

Hello bchan, Welcome to Miracles in Progress. You are not alone, alcoholism and addiction are family diseases. By working the 12 step program and attending meetings with others like ourselves we can learn behaviors and thought processes to take our lives back. This enables us to take better care of ourselves and makes it easier to handle whatever difficulties we are having. The first step in Alanon is that "We admitted we were powerless over alcohol and that our lives had become unmanageable." Glad you are here. Keep coming back.

Thanks I will. I cannot control whether my family member engages in the process for his recovery, but I can take care of myself.

Aloha B...it sound like you have already heard the spirit of Al-Anon recovery by knowing that it is you who you take care of while loving others who you don't have any power over. We are in support of your sanity and serenity and anything and everything we have learned on our own journeys is yours free of charge. When it works for you...give it away to someone else in need. Keep coming back (((((hugs)))))

Hello bchan, I'm sending ((hugs)) your way. I love that you said "no one person should take my sunshine", I can so relate to that thinking and that's just what I needed to hear today. Welcome to MIP and keep coming back.
