Today's reading is about how powerful our attitude is and where it can take us. Many of us gravitate toward the familiar, which depending on our circumstances, may not always be the healthiest for us. Any of us that either grew up in an alcoholic family, married into one, or have been affected by alcoholism know that there is often such negativity that comes along with the disease. The writer points out that while it may be difficult for some of us to make choices, we can decide to make positive choices and enjoy the effects of those.
For me- the overarching theme is that theirs privram changed my life for the better, and I continue to feel strong and positive because of it. The thought for he day from today's reading sums it up way better (and more succinctly!) than I can: "Life is as good as I think it to be."
Today I will try to bring positivity into my thoughts and the situations I am in....hope everyone enjoys the positive in today!

Good morning Mary thank you for posting this important message from the H FT.
When the subject of "attitudes" come up. I remember clearly how I always thought that I was perfect, and my beliefs were solid and that everyone else was wrong. Entering program, I heard the statement that "changed attitudes, aid recovery" and I could not think of one attitude that needed to change. Working the steps and using the slogans, slowly but surely I noticed that many of my attitudes began to change. I no longer enjoyed gossip, judging, criticism or sarcasm. I redefined the meaning being supportive and compassionate. Could actually say the word gratitude and feel it, and most importantly learned to take care myself and my emotional needs and stopped depending on others to do so.
This is all a process and did not happen overnight but upon reflecting about my attitudes through the years I have noticed that "changed attitudes" do aid recovery.

Thank you Mary for your service and the daily reading. Thank you Betty & Mary for your ESH. I vividly remember that moment I realized that I was not a realist but rather a pessimist with an unhealthy attitude. This way of seeing, thinking and feeling about things around me brought about an unhealthy spirit and blocked me from recovery and any concept of a HP!
I am so, so glad that we are given the freedom to learn this program and take our journey at a pace that works well for each of us. I am pretty competitive by nature, so had others not explained to be that it's about progress and not perfection, I'd have raced to the finish and kept my same attitude of getting 'done'.
I have a paperback book that I got back in the 1980s from a business class titled - 'Attitude, Your Most Priceless Possession'. What's so, so funny - when we had to take this class at the company I was working for, I recall the eye-roll I did. Most of what's in the book is simple and easy to understand and I had heard/learned it all before. Yet, as time went on and my insanity increased related to this disease, I can assure you I didn't even realize my negative attitude and outlook. My thinking was, "If you lived with what I lived with, you too would be __________________."
The program has given me back me - my real spirit, my real joy and my real peace. At no point in my life prior to recovery did I feel the peace I feel now, and attribute that to recovery. Thanks to all for being a part of my journey!!

When I came to alanon I had already spent several years in a university program that included a leadership model which focused on collaboration and inclusivity. At the time, I knew I had to let go of control, to let go of being right but I didn't know why that was so hard for me.
Slowly, as my attitudes have changed, I have been able to grow into the person I want to be. My more positive outlook helps me deal with reality and enjoy my life. It has been like stepping out of a shaddow and living in sunshine.

Good Morning everyone and thank you Mary for the positive note to start the day. I actually learned this simple gesture of greeting everyday with "Good Morning" from my RAH. I didn't realize how much of a pessimistic person that I was then. I believe I was afraid to look for the best because so many times it ended in disappointment. With time and change in attitude I can now at least welcome each day. When my mother in law was going through chemo I remarked one day how beautiful she looked and how she was so courageous. She said she just got up everyday, brushed her teeth, put on her make up, looked in the mirror and smiled with gratitude for another day. This was a light bulb moment for me that I wanted some of that courage to change.
