I try to listen to Joel each Sunday morning just to enhance my spiritual life and this morning's share really spoke to me. It's from 2016 and is available on YouTube - here's a link....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huf1UlSh_LY
Essentially for me, it aligns with what our program suggests.
Here's a summary that I get on my phone for the video ---
"Are you relying on what others say or don't say for your value? Are you frustrated today because you don't have the support from others around you? One of the greatest lessons in life is to learn that your true value does not come from people, it comes from Almighty God. Yet many people today rely on the complements, encouragement and approval of others to feel good about themselves and stay motivated. Paul said in Philippians 4:13, "I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency."
It's kind of long so be prepared - 28 minutes....(((Hugs)))

HI IAM It is interesting to find that our principles are solid and supported by many religions, philosophers and self-help individuals. We are on solid ground when we practice these principles in all our affairs.
Hope you have a lovely evening

Right on Hot Rod I remember coming into program afraid and distrustful of the fellowship and then after sometime listening and learning I came to the understanding that the program and its people and its principles were so similar and interwoven with the culture I was raised in and that is when I relaxed. I understand today that others need to have their spirits triggered someway and somehow as mine are and like yourself as I run them thru the filter of the steps, traditions and concepts I am okay with HP. Its not all about me. ((((hugs))))

Amen all - amen! It's so not about me - but it took the program and an open mind for me to learn this!
We were to start softball last night and ... the other team decided it was too cold and wanted to reschedule. So - Thursday night is now to be the kick-off of softball season for me. Looking forward to it!!

Thanks Betty - I hear you....I believe our off-season is almost shorter than summer break but it's truly about the same! We've had a bit of drama surrounding softball and my hope is it's gone this year. I will know soon enough!!! Ha.ha.ha.ha.

Thanks for the tip. I also listen to Anthony De Mello, a Jesuit priest, very spiritual and he talks a lot about this and how we programmed or conditioned to look for approval and how we look for happiness in things that can never provide it.
I know its not Alanon but its the spritual message just the same and links in very well. Someone here suggested it too.

I like hearing things that compliment our program. This is something I need to work on for myself. My bf isn't good at verbal compliments or praise and I struggle with wanting him to be more verbal but, at the same time, I feel like there is a lesson in all of this for me. Opening myself up to God and listening to what He says about me and improving my own self worth in that regard.
