Before starting the program it never occurred to me that I had been neglecting myself. Through working the steps and reading the literature I realized I have choices, and what an amazing realization that is. I have made the choice to live every moment for me, myself and I and I choose to make decisions that are in my best interest for my serenity, my well being and my calm within the chaos.
I choose to wake up each morning and align myself with my higher power and pray for my strength and courage. I choose to drink plenty of water and eat healthy with the occasional piece of chocolate, because why not. I choose to not react to anyones insults and allow them to roll off me like water droplets because those insults don't make me who I am. I choose to jog, take an afternoon nap and meditate each day for a healthy mind and soul. I choose not to gossip or listen to gossip because it's none of my business and only takes time away from me time. I choose forgiveness, unconditionally love and non judgement because it's what makes me heal. I choose to live peacefully with my sometimes toxic but lovely AH and allow him the space he needs for his life's journey because that keeps me sane. I choose to keep coming back because Al Anon is my gift I give to me.

Wow, you are making some good choices. Isnt it amazing to have choices? Who would have known? I was so in denial I truly believed I was helpless and that everyones behaviour and their choices steered my life and so my mission was to make them make the right choices!!! I had it all back to front. So grateful for the clarity this program has brought me, it has taken me closer to the light, thank God.

New to posting in this forum , although an avid reader!
So hello to everyone
Thank you for this post. I have been struggling with something recently and asking my Hp for a bit of help dealing with my xah family.. This post was exactly what I needed to read !
I am 6 years in alanon and although I no longer have an alcoholic directly in my life, I continue to use the program to stay healthy and progress not perfection resonates with me ! I am still battling with powerlessness, more so than ever at the moment , back to step 1 today and taking a bit of time for myself is today's plan

Hi. I just signed on here and your post was the first I've read.
I started alanon a time ago, left my daughters father, my qualifier, and continued for a while, then stopped.
Figured I wasn't with him, didn't need it. Boy have I reverted back to my old behaviors with my current husband, who is not a user, but.
I just wanted to say hello and I hope to get to what you describe. A place of taking care of me
