my mother has been an alcoholic for as long as I can remember. And its tearing m my family apart, yet whenever shes sober I seem to be the only one who remembers her episodes. I struggle with keeping my anger towards her in when shes drinking and Im sick of picking up house duties as i have my own responsibilities. I try to focus on my studies but my grades keep slipping because i cant focus and i just feel my life crumbling. what to i do.... ive run out of ideas and i feel so trappedp

Welcome stormy years you are not alone and there is hope. Alcoholism is a chronic, progressive disease over which, we are all powerless. You didn't cause it, you cannot control it and you cannot cure it. As a result of living with this disease, many develop negative, destructive attitudes in order to cope with the insanity that we live with.
Al-Anon is a recovery program for family members who have lived with the disease and find that they have neglected their own well-being and self-care. As you noted, it becomes harder and harder to concentrate on our own life. That is why Al-Anon suggests that we break the isolation caused by living with the disease and that we attend face-to-face meetings that are held in most communities. It is here that I was given new constructive tools to live by and a supportive network of people who understood as few others could.
I urge you to search out face-to-face meetings in your community(the hotline number is in the white pages) and keep coming back here and sharing

'Running out of ideas' was the best place i reached because it was only then that i considered that I needed help and I couldnt do this alone. Please find your nearest Alanon meeting, check out the website, get yourself some well needed help and support from people who know what its like.

Welcome stormy to MIP - glad you found us and glad that you shared. This disease is wide-spread, progressive and is considered a family disease as it reaches beyond the drinker and affects most who live with or love them. You are not alone - most of us have arrived here at MIP at a loss for clarity and what we can do to help.
In reality, the best solution seems to be to work on self and restore self to sanity and right thinking. We often do not see how affected we are until we listen to others about what it was like, what has happened for them in recovery and what it's like now. We hear often snippets that we relate to and we find hope.
Searching out recovery and relief for you is my suggestion. Al-Anon provides support, help, hope and recovery for those affected by the disease who want it. You are welcome to attend and belong whether your qualifier is in recovery or not. I can relate to all you share and am in a much better place today because of recovery in Al-Anon.
Keep coming back - there is hope and help and you are not alone! (((Hugs)))

A lot of people see an alcoholic as someone sitting on a park bench drinking out of a paper bag.
In my family the others were shocked when I went to Alanon!
