At my wonderful home group meeting tonight, a member shared something that someone else shared with him (he is in recovery from cancer, and this came from a fellow cancer survivor): "eat the cake, take the trip, buy the shoes" -- meaning, he said, "care for yourself extravagantly because no one else will". I think one of today's readings mentioned someone who would cut her own showers short because she was always thinking about what she needed to do for others. These shares really resonate with me. I made a list a few years ago of things that bring me peace. I look at it every now and then and try to make sure I'm doing some of them pretty regularly (they haven't changed). I love the idea of treating myself extravagantly. I am working on keeping the focus on myself and loving and knowing myself -- so this idea of being extravagantly loving and caring for myself is really nice.

Such a great perspective.
It reminds me, too, that it's generally not STUFF that makes me feel calmer and more peaceful. When I look at what makes me feel good, I come up with things like taking the time to meditate (the 60-minute stuff, not the 5-minute version), petting a cat in my lap, listening to favorite music without doing five other things at once, learning about subjects that interest me even when they have no particular relevance to my day-to-day life.
