One of the first, most often used slogans I learned from Alanon is "First Things First" Nearly every morning when i wake up, before all the dozens of thoughts come to my head, i say First Things First. It slows me done. I do the most important Firsts First. Taking care of me[shower, meds, breakfast] before anything. Then can calmly review my other things i want to d/need to do. with a clearer head.I use this saying also when overwhelmed by choices.

I'll think of this tomorrow morning, before the thoughts crowd in. Thank you. I like "First Things First" and often use it alongside asking my self what my "Next Right Step" might be.

Thanks for sharing this! I have been trying to put it into practice, and (when I remember to use it) it works extremely well for me!

I need as many reminders as I can get about how I need to take care of myself FIRST! I need to LOVE myself before I can love anyone else, otherwise I'm just care-taking.
Somewhere in the "do for others" messages that I got in my childhood, I missed the message that my own needs were important and needed to be tended to. I'm still learning that my feelings are as valid as anyone else's and I don't have to be hopping around making sure everyone else's feelings were taken care of before I had a clue what my feelings were. I automatically felt that if someone was upset, it was my fault.
I'm learning ... thank you all for sharing your ESH.
