So, my binge AH is almost done with his latest binge. Tonight he complimented me on how I handled it! In the past I would have done the usual arguing, crying, pleading, hiding and throwing away alcohol. This time I have really focused on detaching, at least trying to. I have not argued and not reacted to his drinking. And, in return, this binge has been just as long but it hasn't been all encompassing and all day. He has been to work most days, not usually on time but he has done enough to keep the business going.
Anyway, I want to thank you all for your shares and comments. They have obviously helped me to focus on me and not worry so much about the ramifications of his drinking.

Good for you Tired! Did you notice you had more energy/time for other things as a result? That's what really got me to commit to detaching, as weird as it felt at first I felt so much energy and mood improvement that I knew it was the way for me.

I can relate to this MidnightOwl - I too had more energy and my attitude and mood was way different when I began practicing detachment! I also had time that I wasn't sure what to do with as I focused differently and ended up filling it with business, play or other.
Great job tired of it. You are doing a wonderful service to yourself. No matter how uncomfortable and different it feels, aligning with the program principles and working the steps helped me regain my peace. I'm not saying that I can sit here in deep meditation during active crazy-train making alcoholism, but I can recite the serenity prayer, grab the dog leash and depart seeking peace of mind without fear of what I will return to.
Keep working it - it looks really good on you!!
