Blame-why does every alcoholic blame all their misfortunes on someone else? His friends are threatening me

So I finally stood up for myself and actually called the police this time. Why is it that I am blamed for everything wrong in his life? He was an alcoholic before I met him and he's still an alcoholic now.
The alcoholic in question has a huge support group of enablers-his boss, his sister, his co-workers, his friends-and I used to be in this group too. Of course, I'm the "b***" that has messed up his life and now his enablers are threatening me.
Three months ago I finally left my alcoholic boyfriend (ex-boyfriend/friend-whatever he is). He forced my hand. He was drinking and he got upset with me because I didn't want to take the dogs for a walk with him when it was getting dark.
To pay me back he dropped me off on the side of the road and then went back to his shop and proceeded to destroy my car. He cut all the spark plug wires, alternator/battery cables, stole my air filter and housing, on and on and on. He's calling me while I'm walking down the road in the dark and tells me that he is going to destroy my car and it will never run again.
I finally get to the shop where my car is at (after walking a mile and a half to get there) and he opens the garage door and is burning the shop truck's tires. Black smoke filled the whole garage. My car is parked right in front of the garage door. He kept stomping on the gas and acting like he was going to run into my car and destroy the front end.
I stood in front of my car thinking, "he won't try to hurt me or the car if I stand in front of it). I had already called a tow truck, I just wanted him to leave me alone and let me go in peace.
Finally, he decided to just go for it. He punched on the gas and went straight for me as I am standing in front of the car. I get out of the way in just in time-I did manage to get scratched on my leg from the his license plate.
So finally, I called the police. I am so tired of this ridiculous behavior. He went to jail for assault (mind you he is already on probation). He needed me to call the cops on him because eventually, he is going to hurt someone-it's not going to be me this time.
Now he is running around town telling people that I am making up lies about him and that he never tried to hit my car-that I just wanted to lie and put him in jail. One of his "friends" actually threatened me saying the "if I were you, I would stay away from him"-meaning that she is going to do something to me.
