The C2C reading for August 21 speaks about some of the confusion that we feel prior to entering program . It points out that implementing slogans such as"Live and Let Live" and "Mind Your Own Business" helps to lift the confusion.
. If we think about it., Al-Anon shows us how to live by using the tools of detachment and helping us to focus on ourselves . When we mange to do this, we will see that many of our problems stemmed from minding everyone else's business and neglecting ourselves.
The big question is - how do we turn the focus on ourselves and learn to live for the first time.? The reading goes on to say that if we simply take the time to look at what we do each day we will find that if we do focus on our life and explore our true selves we will find that our self esteem and self worth increases and we become our own best friend.
. The reminder suggests that today and each day we can choose to take responsibility for our own life, and stay out of other people's business.

OMG I just posted about how the slogans I have read and learned about on this site have helped me more than all the praying I have been doing for my A lover during the past few years. Wow. How ironic that is todays message! Thank you for posting this!

I remember when I started program for the first few f2f meetings, I felt disappointed and confused that no one could help me change my A. After all, why was I coming to Alanon? But after awhile it sunk in that the only one I could control, at best, was myself. So eventually I stopped trying to change my spouse and started learning to change me. And this was no easy task! After a lifetime of having addicted partners/husbands, I was really out of touch with what had happened to me. So it was a hard lesson for me, but an important one, that I can be happy no matter what my A is doing. So I say thank you to Alanon, Lyne

Thank you Betty for your service and the daily! Thanks to those above me for your ESH. I can relate to wanting my qualifiers fixed when I arrived. I was in denial that I was insane, let alone needing to work on me.
Small efforts for me in the beginning yielding results that propelled me forward - leading me to embrace all that Al-Anon offered. I am grateful that I found the humility I needed to listen, take action and change me. Detaching with love, surrendering to the disease and acceptance were necessary for me to understand where I was, how I could be and the path to getting there from here.
Of course, being an impatient person, I wanted to be happy, joyous and free in short order. This is where progress, not perfection and focusing on me and how I handled situations truly helped.
Have a great day all - we have incredible weather - my dog walked me, I've been to a meeting, heading to sober softball and then more softball tonight! Perfect weather for an outdoor day - grateful for the beauty we are surrounded by!!!

I am finding that the slogans are starting to sink into my brain and I can see how my fear is turning into faith....slowly. Letting go and letting God has really been the hardest one for me because of my control issues. I can see that now. I just didn't entirely get it....for many years. I had to hit a hard emotional bottom and truly surrender to the process of recovery and let things happen naturally, no matter what. That's the letting go for me...the letting God for me is after I make the decision to let things happen naturally and let go, usually very anxiously, I have to trust that God has him completely and totally in his keeping. I have to visualize this and repeat. Thanks for being here.
