In answer to your questions:
a. Emergancy Room he was taken there a few days ago and released. This is typical they can't do a thing for him, there are no meds. to counteract the Meth. once he is under the influance.
b. Mental Health, it's been a redundant process, unless they determine by their criteria that he is suicidal they will not keep him. They claim not to be a holding place for detox.
c. Detox Center: We had one the county cut off funding now we no longer have one. We are a large county
d. Medical Coverage: He does not qualify for any medical coverage unless he is diagnosed with a mental illness. The national DSM IV determined addiction is a mental illness but our county has ruled addiction out in order to cut county costs and balance the budget. I do not have the financial means to pay for medical costs.
e.Jail: Yes, that could be an alternative but most of the time the police do not want to arrest him because he has not committed a crime. He has had no charges for over 7 years. The only violations are being under the influence. When they do take him they usally release him in 12 hours sometimes less. As long as by their criteria he is sober they will release him. There is that word again their criteria.

He is out on the streets and keeps calling that he has no where to go. I say I'm sorry this are the consequences of your drug use and next time to go to use remenber that this is where the drug leads you. He ends up at my neice's house she refuses to open the door she has 3 children. He ends up at my sister's house, she feeds him a sandwich. He eats and she offers him overnite shelter in a small room outsde her house. He refused. She turned down her offer for him to stay. He was to disoriented, claiming she had someone in her restroom with guns ready to kill him. She asked me to call the police. I did but he let before the police arrived. I turned off the service on his cell phone. He's walking up & down the street talking to himself. He keeps coming to the door wanting to come in, it's dark out now. I gave him a sleeping bag and left my car open in case he gets ready to crash but he dosen't look like it. The calls keep coming, someone is lending him a phone. Someone comes to my door, he claims my son wants money to rent a room. I said, no. He come back I keep telling him I'm going to call the police. He won't leave he wants to come in. It's getting late 11:00pm now. I call the police they come he is not here he had left. They are going to look for him. They advice call them if he comes back. He still had not slept. I got very little rest during the day, catching up on work. Thank God I have my own business. I left the sleeping bag outside in case he wants to use it.

Yeh!!!!!!!!!I got some sleep, He never called or came over. The sleeping bag was gone this morning. My Mom calls family members, no one knows anything.
10:00 am my brother calls he just saw him sitting on the porch of a neighbor 4 doors down. Not a good place for him. This family has a history of lots of drug activity and guys tend to gravitate there to hang out. He has a residental bed at a program approved for Monday or Tuesday. They will not take him if he is under the influence. These beds are difficult to come by, they are limited and at no cost. If he were to lose his position I don't know where he will go or what he will do. I'll worry about that when it comes, I ahve enough on my plate just for today.
I have been reading the web site with the steps and it really helps. I attend a support group once a week, I do allot of reading and research on the disease, I pray allot, I'm a Capacitar Trainer, so I do visualization and relaxation tecniques and tie chi. you may veiw at Capacitar. com I have attended many, many, many meetings through the 18 years. AA, NA, Co-Dependance, Innerchild, Al-Anlon, Tough Love, Action, Etc............................ Bottomline no matter how much I know and how much support I have. He is still my son, I love him, and it's very difficult for me. I never lose hope for his recovery.

(((((((bluecrow)))))) My heart is still going out to you! My daughter became consumed by the disease, alcohol/drugs and was away at college. I was not able to see how it affected her until she came home for help (after being put in jail) and relapsed after treatment. WE finally were able to call the police on her when we saw how out of her mind she was and how violent she becomes. They let her out the next day! She thankfully only tried meth twice (so she says) and did not like it. My son explained to us from a workshop he was at how awful meth is, even when they go off of it. Your son will be in my prayers daily! My daughter is struggling now but her new live in boyfriend is a recoverying meth addict who recently started drinking again, (not sure of details). He spent 3 years in prison and is out now but with the sudden drinking may start the meth again. WE like this kid and hope he can stay clean. Our government needs to do something about this meth epidemic! Even in my state of ND there is no where for them to go. One town has a place but there is a waiting list! My daughter's old boyfriend is currently selling meth but the police don't arrest him because they want the big dealers! I hate meth! Your post struck something in me today,,,old memories and feelings. Giving your son a sleeping bag or food brought tears to me. What a kind and loving thing to do. Keeping them out of the house is so necessary but has to be so very difficult! I will send out positive energy to you and your family and say prayers too. Keep on posting my friend. My heart goes out to you. I am glad you got some rest. I am praying for you and your some and pray that you get some comfort and relief and that your son gets his bed at the treatment center. It will get better. You will get better. I pray he does as well. You are doing the best you can. Keep praying to your HP for support, strength and courage.

I wish I could say the magic thing that would help you through this, but I know I can't.
I am so thankful that you are posting about what it is like to have a child who is hooked on Meth. This is to us what Heroin was to our parents. Dangerous, mysterious, deadly...
Thankfully parents like you are sharing openly and honestly. Hopefully by the time my own children are presented the opportunity to try Meth, I will have educated them as much as I can. By sharing your story, maybe you will help others who are going through the same thing, or will be able to give a shoulder in the future to someone else who will be going through too.
I am so sorry for your frustration. I can not even imagine the true depth of powerless you must feel.
You sound like you have a good grasp on what you can change, and what you can't.
Most of all, I feel touched that you will NEVER EVER give up hope. Sometimes it is the parents that are the only ones left to pray for them.
Keep praying. My prayers will join yours, and I am sure everyone who reads your story will join your prayers too. I have total faith in the power of prayer...
