Loving is so terrifying, makes everyone run and hide
When you can give a genuine love, most of us who are abused can't even tolerate it
Foreign it is to be accepted, adored, compassionately understood, empathathically embraced
When it is all any of us long for, just to be loved for ourselves.
The irony of it all is we don't even know how to love ourselves or even give it consideration
So the love given is twisted, demented, demanding, critical.
If we could just let down our walls that we hide so comfortably behind & defend nothing
Stand naked in spirit & open in mind allowing our hearts to be boundless & soar
Overflowing, uplifted, free from desires or what we might get in return
God gives us love for others with out explanation, it is just there, magically it exists
Love is a gift given by God & when u receive a gift given with love, there are no conditions.
It is illogical, free, unconditional or it isn't love.
Is it better to have loved & lost, yes your own experience of loving itself, is what it is...
It is like water, you try to hold it and it flows through your hands
the more you give the more you are able to recieve, nearly impossible to conceive
for it is of God, we must surrender to achieve.

Morning Kitty,
Thanks for sharing this with us. I was sucked in, in the first verse. I love how it depicts what love is for abuse survivors. Abuse of any kind. I could see the abused in my life so clearly. I also saw a some of my self in the mirror in the first verse, thinking that in my own small way, I suffered as well, as I am sometimes demanding or critical.
Interesting use of three verses. For me it was like experience of love, the strength of love, and the hope that we shall learn to give and receive it, in one poem.
Keep em coming, I really enjoyed it and read it a few times to let it sink in more and more.

thanks for always being there for me, ((bumpsters)) ~ I was wondering if anyone would even like it or if it would resonate with anyone. I sure havent even tried to write one in over about 15 yrs, it just came out.
Maybe this means, I'll start writing again, who knows?
