Forgive me for telling this story if you have already heard it(I think I told it in an online meeting once)---but I think it is such an amazing witness of my amazing HP. This summer, my husband (my A) and I were at odds. He was using, unhappy, critical and just a joy to live with. One Friday nite in August, he went to his friend's house to play guitar and I went out with some neighbors. We parted on bad terms that nite and I just had a bad feeling about our situation all that evening. I came home around 11pm that night and went to bed. As I lie in bed I asked my HP for some help in showing me what is going on with our marriage. It was basically just an SOS prayer. I went to sleep and at 1:30am the phone rang. It was my A calling that he was at a bar and his car was stolen with his guitar, wallet and cell phone in it. (at this point I am thinking "is this the answer to my prayers?") Yes, I picked him up and took him to the police station and cancelled his cell and his credit cards. Over the course of the next week or so my A came clean on a bunch of lies he had been telling and some really appalling stuff (long-term infidelity, habitual lying and sneaking around, etc). Then, about 10days later--the car reappears! A couple of blocks from where he left it--with all his stuff still there! The car could not have been parked where it was for the entire time or it would have been ticketed and towed. Want to know my theory? I used to say alien abduction (lol) but I honestly believe it was a miracle because HP knew that the only thing that would freak my A out enough to get honest with me was taking his most precious material possessions (that guitar and his car). After he told all, he got his stuff back (which I didn't think was too fair of HP--I was reeling from the info he told me and he got his stuff back!) I always thought miracles came in the form of good stuff (ie- leprosy cures, walking on water, blind seeing, deaf hearing) BUT I truly believe this was one too. It changed my life and rocked our marriage out of complacency. Yeah, we're still together--but I'm much wiser and he's not sure if he can still use drugs and we have a good marriage/family therapist. My HP is so good to me and my A. I wish I could write this as my Christmas letter to people this year---but I best keep up the facade of normalcy with the rest of the world. (y'all know how it is!) Miracles do happen all around us.  The trick is opening our eyes so that we can witness the.  I don't think I was at the meeting where you shared this so I'm even happier that you shared it here.  (not that I would have minded reading it twice).

Jeanne, It is so refreshing to read the answer to your prayer. I have been a member here for a long time, I'm also a recovering Alcoholic.I read, but don't post. I've been sober 20 years, married to my A for 22 years. He is once again in a state ordered treatment center for felony DUI. I am expecting a miracle, I have not given up on the marriage or God.

In 1993, I knew something was different about his actions, so I began to pray God show me. In about a week, He did. I was getting ready to leave for church one Wednesday evening, husband wasn't home yet...well as I reached for my frontdoor knob, a migraine hit me without warning. I told my daughter to go ahead and drive her and my son to church.I went to the bedroom ,layed down. I soon heard the front door open, I heard my husband talking to another male. He didn't know I was home as the car was gone, so I waited awhile. I walked down the hallway and peeked into the dining room, they were sitting there doing coke. I went back to the bedroom unseen, when I heard his friend leave I came out of the bedroom, said I'd just woke up. To make a long story short, a month later I did an intervention, the councelor called me in her office , my husband said he had something he needed to tell me, he admitted he was using Coke, I said I already knew.He has not used coke since that day. Alcohol is a different story, but it is not to hard for God to deal with,and I believe He will.

I have gone to f2f Al-anon meetings as well as AA since 1991, I respect each and everyones opinions. The programs have taught me not to give up 5 minutes before the miracle.And SOS prayers have saved my life many times.

Thanks for your share Jeanne. I can only hope that my A husband and I can become more compatible even in separation. I hope for a miracle for us but I know that Alanon says to work on yourself.

I came home to my empty house last night (my husband moved out) and was overwhelmed by loneliness and sadness. It is sooo cold and making the fire and doing all the chores just gets to me. I sat down by the fire and just started crying. Well, it was pitty party for me. No sooner did I start crying and the phone rang. It was a colleague that said come on over because friends were coming over to knit and make homemade tortillas. Oh, I helmed and hawed (poor me) and went over. I had a great time laughing, knitting, and being with others. I am dumbfounded that the minute I started crying that the phone rang! Thanks HP for helping when we need it.

Thanks for sharing your story.

I have always said that when my hope of my "A" ever finding recovery again starts to fade, my HP steps in and polishes it all over again so it is shinning bright. Your story gave me some shine back, and I really needed it today.
