Gratitude and acceptance are two magic tricks available to us in recovery. No matter who we are, where we are, or what we have, gratitude and acceptance work.We may eventually become so happy that we realize our present circumstances are good. Or we master our present circumstances and then move forward into the next set of circumstances.If we become stuck, miserable, feeling trapped and hopeless, try gratitude and acceptance. If we have tried unsuccessfully to alter our present circumstances and have begun to feel like we're beating our head against a brick wall, try gratitude and acceptance.If we feel like all is dark and the night will never end, try gratitude and acceptance.If we feel scared and uncertain, try gratitude and acceptance.If we've tried everything else and nothing seems to work, try gratitude and acceptance.If we've been fighting something, try gratitude and acceptance.When all else fails, go back to the basics.Gratitude and acceptance work.Today, God, help me let go of my resistance. Help me know the pain of a circumstance will stop hurting so much if I accept it. I will practice the basics of gratitude and acceptance in my life, and for all my present circumstances.
#####ROSIE.....i use BOTH of them as much as i can.....if i cannot accept something, and i CANNOT change it??? i better LEARN to accept it.....and FIND things to be grateful for.......acceptance and gratitude DO work....sure do....they have lifted me out of many a pit of despair....... but i must tell the truth!!! one can only say "thank you" so many times when life just KEEPS hammering you down......THEN it is surrender prayers.......i don't belive that i can become "so happy" as this pollyanna post implies, when i am longing for emotional and financial security/ compansionship but i CAN learn to make the best of it.....i do believe that gratitude to hp, causes hp to give me more things to be grateful for so i try to practice....and as far as acceptance??? there are things that are JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE under any circumstances.....but on those instances, and they are rare.....my case, incest is just NOT acceptable....somethings are just SO over the top.....HOWEVER it was incumbant on me to *MAKE MY PEACE with it*..........acknowledge the FACTS....it DID happen...i had NO control.....i had NO cure......but no!!! there are some things that are just NOT acceptable in my books.....for me i had to make my peace with it.....reconcile with the fact that it happend to me...i had NO choice NO defense NO hope at the time NO safety place /person to run to......i did my BEST under the most horrific circumstances.......i accept me now AS I AM....i accept the injuries i sustained as a result of it....and i practice GRATITUDE that i did NOT go insane....i did NOT kill myself....i did NOT turn killer like so many victims like me do........and i too when i try to change someting and i cannot....i am not so big a person to say "oh thank you god that i am going to lose my home" (just an example) but i CAN accept the facts....so i CAN make decisions based on acceptance and NOT denial........if i am fighting something and i feel that scrambling/ frantic feeling???? i let GO....detach.....accept that i am powerless and i give it over..........i try to do my gratitude list as best as i can......accepting the facts.....NOT denying.......and yes, i too pray to God, TODAY, help me practice NONresistance in my life ...help me become AWARE of the facts........ACCEPT on that basis......and take ACTION in alignment with the divine plan for my life.....thank you DONE
