All I am able to say at this point is by reading the board lately I feel like it is the story of my life.
My ex the A his drinking and marijuana use at age 12, his not willing to be a dad, his enabling parents -his whole family (place a happy face on the family attitude) and the child (our son) who is left going through this with a single parent (single parenting is HARD) being a teen and angry with the world. This has been going on for years, but it's now my almost 16 year old is lashing out, although I don't quite get it -I am non reactive, calmer through program and other work and my son gets worse? In any event he is in counseling now and Al-Ateen. I am amazed to read how our lives are meshed with similarities through this disease.
Wishes to all

The thing that I like about alanon is that i start to realize through other stories that although my life feels hard, it could be harder.
You may have saved your son's life by putting him in alateen. Keep your chin up.

It is unbelievable how similar and yet different all our stories are. I think that is why a place to talk where people understand, not just becasue they are compassionate, but becasue they have lived it, is so wonderful. It helps to know we are not alone, and we can all learn form the successes and the failures of each other.
It is great you are getting your son help. You can't do anything about him being the child of an alcoholic. But the best gifts you can give him are a healthy Mom and the tools he needs to love a healthy life.

sounds just like my twin's Dad!! He actually asked if he could quit paying child support, can you believe that? He sees them only when he wants to at his convienence. I don't get it!

Tea,
That is great that he is going to alateen. Hopefully he will be able to see that he is not alone, and that you and he may share many of the same feelings, and that he has a healthy and safe place to vent.
Can he access the alateen site here? For me I am very open here, because I am just a cyber name out there, not speaking to people face to face. I love my f2f meetings, but I share more here than there because there is a sence of safety here. Maybe he can find the same here. Just a thought.
You continuing to work your program will probably help him so much, he can see the value in working it.
