I was able to meet my recoverying alcoholic/drug addicted daughter today for dinner and it was a real blessing. The more I have stayed out of her issues, the closer we have gotten. She even shared with me about her meth usage which wasn't much (Thank God). She is able to talk so openly with me and our trust level for each other is very high. She is so healthy and happy now even though she is looking for another job and still struggling. She knows I love her unconditionally and she can share with me anything and I will not judge her. This took years to get back to this point after her struggle with alcohol and drugs. I didn't know who she was anymore for several years when she was consumed by the disease. She is back to the person who I remember as my daughter :) We are friends and we talk the AA,NA,Alanon talk which is really nice too. She can talk about how she struggles and about her past boyfriend issues. I have learned to keep my Heart Open and my Mouth Shut and it has changed my life with her. When she and I have these times, I cherish them forever. I am able to replace them with the horrible, awful diseased memories. I am just so at peace today and so happy that I am going to enjoy this and not let anyone or anything change it. I always tried to have hope and I still do. I wish everyone could have these moments with their loved ones. Don't give up hope. I have given up hope before here as some well know. I have hit my bottom too. No one knows our HP/higher powers plan. All I know is for today, I am blessed and so is my daughter. Thanks for sharing this with me. cdb :)

Do you realize how lucky she is to have you?
It is wonderful that the two of you have gotten so close and that she is doing well. Knowing she has your love and support must make it easier for her.
I know it would be great to replace the bad memories with the good ones. In a way remembering the bad times can be a blessing. It makes us all the more aware of how special and preciouse the good times adn our loved ones are.
Enjoy the peaceful feelings, you deserve it.
Love Jeannie

Thank you all for your replies and your support. The saying Open Heart and Closed Mouth is something I came up with along with my HP :) I am glad some can use it because it sure helped me alot. It does sound a little funny but for some of us parents, it is hard to bite our tongues and watch our kids struggle and at times hit bottom. your friend in recovery, cdb :)

Hi Cdb,
That was a beautiful post. The bond between a mother and child is so strong. It is heartbreaking when you have to watch your own kids suffer in order to get well. Enjoy everyday you have with each other. Luv Leo x
