Just received this in an email from another friend in recovery...you may enjoy it too.
I asked God to take away my habit. God said, No. It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole. God said, No. His Spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.
I asked God to grant me patience. God said, No. Patience is a byproduct of tribulations; it isn't granted, it is learned.
I asked God to give me happiness. God said, No. I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.
I asked God to spare me pain. God said, No. Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.
I asked God to make my Spirit grow. God said, No. You must grow on your own! But I will prune you to make you fruitful.
I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life. God said, No. I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.
I asked God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me. God said...Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

TFS this is Awesome
In speaking of my spiritual ESH - what I learned as a teenager, is that when I sat there & asked, begged, pleaded God to take anything from me... nothing ever happened.
When it occurred to me to sa/pray, "God I give you this freely & wholly" even if or when I demand God to receive it from me as given immediately -- IT WORKS! IT WORKS EVERY SINGLE TIME!
To me that poem is the epitome of of what God wants from us & the meaning of what we are as "made in his/hers/it's Image" -- We Have Creative Choice, each & every new moment.
God wants us to choose to Surrender unto Him/Her/It.
Bless u for posting this, it made me cry... Truth is truth!

ty satori....
I loved that...It is soo true god gives us all the tools needed for everything,it is just a matter of us putting them to work...
God loves us for who we are,and not what we are not or wish to be
God' s love is unconditional..he will love us no matter what we did or didn't do
