I am new here and to Alanon. I am 52 years old and about 5 months into a new relationship with a man who I have known since I was 15. We lost touch with each other when we were 18 and about 3 years ago started emailing each other and talking on the phone. Even though I grew up in an alcoholic home (my father) I had no idea that this man is an alcoholic. We fell back in love over the course of those 3 years and decided that we would get married. So I moved here about 5 months ago now with great hope and expectations. We are planning to get married in July. Over the past 5 months I have come to realize that he is an alcoholic. It took me awhile.... I did wonder... but now I know for sure. So.... I have been talking with my father on the phone. He is a recovering alcoholic for 20 years. He told me to start going to alanon meetings and I have looked in this city but haven't had any luck finding one yet. The problem is that I'm new here and I don't know anyone except for my A. He admits to me now that he is an alcoholic but doesn't want to stop drinking. He loves me deeply and I him.... I know he would never physically hurt me, but his drinking scares me and I'm afraid he will hurt himself or make himself really sick. I just need someone to talk to. I feel very isolated.

You are in the right place.
One very easy way to find alanon is to look in the phone book. In the Yellow Pages look under Alcohol. Call AA. They can direct you to an alanon meeting. Or call a local hospital, they should have connection to alanon. Or better yet go to www.al-anon.org You can find a meeting on that site.
We have online meetings here, and I have found them to be very very helpful.

Thank you... I really appreciate your help. I will check the yellow pages. I don't know why I didn't think of that. My father gave me a number to call but it didn't help. I tried to find it on the internet but my city is not listed there. It's an awful feeling being in a new city where you don't know anyone and things aren't the way you thought they would be. Again.... thank you very much.
