I am sure that many of you won't be suprized, but I survived the funeral.
My grandfather showed up with a black eye and many abraisions that he successfully obtained at the bottom of a few scotch and rum bottles....
My mother didn't even make herself available for a conversation....
My children got to see her and were more interested in the many cousins who wanted to play....
My husband almost made an ass out of me (I hauled his ass out of there before he got too drunk)...
BUT...
It was not me with the cuts, not me who ignored my daughter and didn't even take an opportunity to talk to my grandchildren, nor me who got drunk at a funeral.
I got to say goodbye. I got to see many family members that I hadn't seen in many years, and give words of encouragement to those I least expected to.
I grew a whole bunch this week. Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement, and prayers. I definately felt them, as I felt so strong on Wednesday, so very, very strong.
With love
Aron

Hello Aron,
It is great that you can feel the growth in yourself. Kids are sure resilient too and took care of themselves and played with their cousins. It is sad to see what alcoholism does to people isn't it? It goes back to the 3 Cs. I am proud of you for how you took care of you and acted like an adult more than most of them there. Your kids will learn from you and from your behavior. Yes, you sure did get through it and now know the strength you have aquired since alanon :) Keep on growing in the program and setting a good example for your kids as well as a healthier wiser person for you. cdb :)

You've inspired me. It's true that we sometimes don't realize how many tools we pick up in this program until we come across situations like this and get through them with heads held high.
Thanks for sharing.

I'm glad you got through it. Funerals are always tough and our families can often make it toughter. You are so right, none of those problems where yours, they belonged to others.
You got to say goodbye and you got to keep your side of the street clean.
Keep taking care of yourself.
Love Jeannie

Good for you. Sorry you had to go through that, but it sounds like you handled yourself well, and you are the only one you have control over.
