Hi

I've been trying over week, but there is no way for me to get to a meeting.  I have no to watch my daughter at night and work during the day.  I can't go on my lunch because there's just not enough time.  Feeling a little discouraged about all.  It feels like there is some force against me getting better.  Any sugguestions on how to heal on line?

Well until you get to a face to face go to the meeting here on the site. Do some posting so maybe some of your answers would answer or you will understand better.

Can you get a babysitter one night a week? Find a meeting that allows children? Alateen meets at the same time as our Al-Anon meeting, and many of the youngsters attending do not look like teens.

Hi there are no meetings in my area but I have just joined Al-Anon as a lone member.  They will send you a registration form and then a support person can email you or phone whichever you choose.  Hope this helps until you can get to a ftf meeting.   Luv Leox

I found a meeting that was okay with me bringing my kids.  I just phoned the alanon number in the phonebook, and asked, explaining that I was desperate.

I know for myself, I don't mind when kids are at a meeting.  I think any exposure they have to the program, weather through just hearing it while they are coloring or playing video games etc is a good start.  They don't come with me very often anymore, but honestly, I don't know many people that have an objection to having kids there.  As long as they are semi entertaining themselves and not disturbing the meeting. 

Remember, most of us alanoners are caretakers..  :)

ONline is good - but you will be missing VERY valuable support, information etc. if you do not get the courage to go to a meeting. Yes, I say courage. IF you thought it was important - you would find a way. As capt - said , many meetings welcome children! She is old enough to bring a book etc. to stay occupied for one hour. Thats how long a meeting is - 1 hour. It is important that you know that YOU are valuable enough to make this important; find a friend that she can stay with for 1 hour. ( plus driving time!) Make YOU valuable to you. One thing we wonderful codependants do is put ourselves last. Being raised in a dysfunctional A home, you probably were put last. You owe it to yourself and your daughter - get to a meeting, and start your journey in recovery. It will be one of the best things you could ever do for yourself. Put yourself FIRST today. I too am unable to go to meetings.  They are at times I can't go.  The online ones I haven't been able to go to either--since I am working during the morning one and I have not internet access at home.  I did order the Al-Anon 12 step book and I have begun to read through and work on the steps.  I would like a sponsor but I'm not sure how to work that.  I have found the book helpful already and this site is a wonderful tool!  I hope you find the support and encouragement you need.
