My mother & step-father made it to their second session with this "family therapist".  I am so disturbed about the behaviour of this woman doctor, I am actually horrified. She is jumping to judgement, feeding the A answers, telling my mother she is unreasonable, because she is setting boundaires.  (what a joke!) She obviously knows nothing about addictions or how we suffer for loving those addicted.   

How can after one session, you tell a woman that has been cheatted on by a serial liar - anything? 

I know, it's been a while, since I had any actual therapy from a "real" counselor or doctor but they hardly say anything! They just sit there & say, how does that make you feel?  Not say, "all men act that way"!  As if!  Where is her compassion &/or sympathy?  First my mother is betrayed by her A, then the therapist is attacking her?

I think I would like to go see this therapist, so she can say "boo" to me & I can let out a wave of rage!  She has no idea what we've been through, the sacrifices, the lies.  Just hearing about it made my blood boil, my mom doesn't deserve any of this & I know she is just getting so tired & weak from being psychologically beaten down.  How dare that doctor!  

Yesterday I was terrified of becoming depressed again, today with my anger I painted my whole kitchen (now I still have the trim to finish but no doubt, it will be a breeze!)

I thank God for my anger today, I could move a mountain!

Hello Kitty , too bad  your parents found such a dud in a therapist, but it happens alot, unless they understand the disease of alcoholism they aren't much help. Just feeding the disease , slip your mom some al anon literature it will help to off set the dissapointment of her first session.

I don't know if your mom has told the therapist about his drinking or not alot of women don't because they really havent connected that is where the problem lies .  Or they  have been told that we are crazy and it's all being blown out of proportion.

Maybe the next session will work out better. Phoning the therapist won't do much good. but u do what u have to do. Encourage mom to speak up and say how it is . that may change the tone of the next session.    good luck   Louise

I am tempted to go back one more time for a private session with the therapist-- private in the sense of without the A. Just to see if she has gotten even a fragment of a clue based on all of the writings I have done and left with her.

If her perspective has not come into focus, then, I will proceed to the next step of looking for a different therapist. Additionally, I will take the step that she recommend to her clients. If a client is not happy with her therapy, I should report the matter to the Board of which she is a member.
