This is my first time to this message board.  My husband has been sober now for a little over 6 years.  I'm very proud of him for that, but here lately I have been worried.  I lost my job of 24+ years a year ago and we are really starting to feel the pinch.  I've been everywhere I can think of to find another job, but Indiana just doesn't seem to have much in our area.  It is starting to get to him.  If he would start to drink again, it will kill him.  The doctors have told him this.

He doesn't want to go to meetings anymore and I have to confess that I haven't went to any Al-anon meetings.  I, myself, am now being treated for depression again.  I know I can't control him, but I don't think I could go through all of that again.

I'm open for suggestions.  Thanks for listening.

I am new too.  I am in a similar situation. I am trying to go to meetings.  It is the hardest thing to do.  The people at the meetings really extend the hand of the fellowship and things don't seem as bad. Even getting on line like this helps.  Hang in there.  One day at a time.

I was going to meetings, but after I lost my job I just sorta quit.  All I wanted to do was sit in the house.  I've gotten out of that pretty much now, thanks to the medicine for the depression.  I was always use to making and having my own money and so was he.  Now our income has been cut in half and it really puts us in a bind.  He's trying to hang in there, I know, but him not attending meetings anymore really bothers me.

So glad you found us . I have found a lot of miracles in my life through coming to this site.

I have found unconditional love and support here , I was confined to the house for a year and had time to go to online meetings and it has been incredible.

I was in Alanon from 86- 90 before my Man got sober ...I would go 3x a week and work on me and the detatchment thing. In 90 he got sober ...he went to AA for a year or so ..I continued in alanon until about 91....Then we both "graduated"

For ME  ? Hmmm....AA says " we shall not regret the past, nor wish to shut the door on it " so , I won't ... as it got me here

I can say that I came BACK to alanon in 2003 after an 11 year abscence "with the Gift of Desperation" ....my income went from about $10,000 a month take home ...to just $900 ...but my BILLS were close to $3,600 ....I was DESEPERATE

I have friends in AA ...I knew when they were getting sober they "went to any lengths" to find recovery, sanity and serenity

I needed that.... soo....I found a home group , bought ALL the Alanon literature ( used at amazon.com or ebay)  ....asked a nice lady to be my temporary sponsor ( Thank goodness she said yes) and began to come to the online meetings here twice a day

And the miracles began ! I learned here to "work the program , not the problem" I asked for HELP .....I was told to "surrender everything to a Higher Power as I uderstood ( or did not) Him/her/it "  I didnt WANNA do it , but my best thinking on my own had gotten me to Hell

Sooo ...I did it

Ever since that day, my needs HAVE miraculously been met ...I have never gone hungry, I have had utlilites , I have kept my house against tremendous odds ...

Right up until today's latest example ...I was running so short of funds I was nervous about having food. I went to a Face to face ( live) meeting ... a woman put a small card in my hand

in it was a check for $250.00 in the memo section was written "from the bank of karma" and instructions to pay it forward when I am on my feet. ( and I WILL)

In addition , my miracles have included food, fuel, the town where I lived waved $8,000 of property taxes so I could keep my house.

The help has ALWAYS come when I ask for  it from my Higher Power.

I am glad you found us . I have a feeling it isn't an accident.

Hi tk - Welcome - we understand and already love you. Try to get out to meetings and to the on-line meetings here. I had to have help learning to take care of me. I was so used to worrying about the a even if he happened to be sober that I got lost. I was afraid to stop worrying about him. Al-Anon taught me how to stop - one day at a time - one small step at a time. Keep coming back - you're worth the effort - and life will get better. Love - Dot (((((((((((tk)))))))))
