I am busy reminding myself that "I am powerless over my husband's alchohol". It's a new mantra...trying to get used to it. He called from the road last night (he travels for work often) and I caught a hint of it in his mood,...and his tone. I know the sound...I suppose we all do. So then, when I get home, I started my routine of sweeping the house...and then stopped. And started, and stopped. Reminding myself not to do that anymore! And I sat and thought about Step 1. And about Christ.
Christ (my HP!) had the power over EVERYTHING...and more often then not, he still didn't use it. He let things be. So here I am...a girl with really no power, STILL trying to have power. So I should try (try!) to be more like Christ, and simply let it be. And love...and forgive "them", for they know not what they do.
It hurts though. I cried so hard last night.

I think the first step is by far the hardest..especially for women. We like to have everything "under control". It's in our nature, and letting things go is not something we do easily. I believe this is where "detaching with love" comes into play, but again that isn't easy either.
Having said that, once we recognize that alcohol is a problem in our lives I think that gives us strength, and perhaps just a little "power" to carry on and deal with what comes our way.

Thank you so much for that share, it has really helped me today feel calm. Been getting increasingly anxious trying to fix things not within my control. You just grounded me.
